Book Review : we are the ants Shaun David Hutchinson

We Are the AntsWe Are the Ants by Shaun David Hutchinson
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

April 7 – 18

There are a few things Henry Denton knows, and a few things he doesn’t.

Henry knows that his mom is struggling to keep the family together, and coping by chain-smoking cigarettes. He knows that his older brother is a college dropout with a pregnant girlfriend. He knows that he is slowly losing his grandmother to Alzheimer’s. And he knows that his boyfriend committed suicide last year.

What Henry doesn’t know is why the aliens chose to abduct him when he was thirteen, and he doesn’t know why they continue to steal him from his bed and take him aboard their ship. He doesn’t know why the world is going to end or why the aliens have offered him the opportunity to avert the impending disaster by pressing a big red button.

But they have. And they’ve only given him 144 days to make up his mind.

The question is whether Henry thinks the world is worth saving. That is, until he meets Diego Vega, an artist with a secret past who forces Henry to question his beliefs, his place in the universe, and whether any of it really matters. But before Henry can save the world, he’s got to figure out how to save himself, and the aliens haven’t given him a button for that.

Review – I loved this book it was beautifully written and it has amazing characters . Henry has been taken by aliens since he was 13 but now there is a big reason the world is going to end and he has to choose to press the button or let the world end . Henry’s boyfriend committed suicide and he’s trying to deal with that and he’s fooling around with a guy who calls him Space boy . Then he meets Diego vega who is new and is hiding his past they start to hang out Henry’s brother dropped out of college and got his girlfriend pregnant his grandmother is loosing her memories his father left and he doesn’t know why . Henry was attacked in the shower at school and he knows it was Marcus and he doesn’t want to tell . He ends the hook ups with Marcus , he skips class with Diego but his car won’t start so Audrey sees them and offers them a ride . Audrey and Henry use to be friends but when Jesse died there was a rift between them when she just left but she ended up going to a hospital but never told Henry . on thanksgiving Henry goes over to Diego’s and they have a BBQ and they end up kissing and then he was taken by the aliens again this book was beautiful it made me laugh and it made me cry so many times . Henry finds out why Diego was sent to live with his sister his father was abusive and so he took out his anger out back on him and was sent to juvi . On new years Henry and Charlie throw a party and Diego and Henry start making out and then some but they are stopped when there is something wrong with Zoe there was a lot of blood and she ends up loosing the baby . Henry and Diego “Break up” he goes to the winter fair with Audrey and he sees Diego’s painting of him and then he runs away and he’s crying and he runs into Marcus and he attacks Henry and tries to rape him but Henry gets away when Diego finds out he punches Marcus and Henry checks himself into a place to get better with his grief when he gets out he goes to Charlie’s wedding and then Diego’s back they kiss he didn’t press the button who knows what will happen I loved this book so much so beautiful.

There’s an amazing world out there for you to discover, Henry Denton , but you have to be willing to discover yourself first .
The bell rang , saving me and we all rose like pavlivian dogs , eager to run to our next classes. Except Diego . He was still sitting , like he was waiting for me to say something, but I didn’t know what. Finally I said , what if I don’t give a shit about the world ?
Diego gathered out trash and frowned . I’d say that’s pretty fucking sad .
Why ?
Because the world is beautiful .

It’s up to Yato’s “divine intervention” to turn Hiyori back to normal, but can Hiyori rely on the spontaneous and wayward Yato to do his job properly? What’s more, the almighty warrior god Bishamonten has sworn revenge on Yato?!

Review- I’m loving this series it just gets better and better in this one Yukine is starting to steal things and Yato feels it . We meet Yato’s girlfriend who is kind of a idiot and her shinki she’s the god of fortune. Hiyori still has her problem that she falls out of her body and Yato has yet to fix it . We learn anyone who wanted to die can’t be a shinki which means they didn’t want to die . Then there is the war god Bishamoten who wants to kill Yato cause he killed her shinki so Hiyori goes to get Kouku and Daikoku help which creates a giant hole in the forest this one was crazy I love this series can’t wait to see what happens next.

Noragami: Stray God, Vol. 1 (Noragami: Stray God, #1)Noragami: Stray God, Vol. 1 by Adachitoka

March 28 – 31

Yato is a stray god. He doesn’t even have a shrine, not to mention worshipers! Hoping he’ll eventually raise enough money to build himself the lavish temple of his dreams, Yato accepts all kinds of jobs. Of course, he can’t afford to be picky; from finding lost kittens to helping a student overcome bullies, no job is too small for Yato, the god-for-hire! An eccentric story with a charming cast of characters!

Review – Yato is a god but he’s homeless he doesn’t have a shrine he does things for people for a small fee then through a event he meets a girl who gets hit by a bus and she can kind of step out of her body and she grants a wish with yato but he hasn’t fulfilled it this manga was funny I loved it . Yato needs a shinki and hiyori is determined to find one for him so she finds this creature and Yato spots a spirt and makes him his Shinki I think this was a great manga can’t wait to continue .

Book Review: Kil the boy band Goldy Moldavsky

Kill the Boy BandKill the Boy Band by Goldy Moldavsky
My rating: 3 of 5 stars

Kill the Boy Band by Goldy Moldavsky
My rating: 3 of 5 stars
verdict : Skip it
March 7 – 14
Okay, so just know from the start that it wasn’t supposed to go like this. All we wanted was to get near The Ruperts, our favorite boy band.

We didn’t mean to kidnap one of the guys. It kind of, sort of happened that way. But now he’s tied up in our hotel room. And the worst part of all, it’s Rupert P. All four members of The Ruperts might have the same first name, but they couldn’t be more different. And Rupert P. is the biggest flop out of the whole group.

We didn’t mean to hold hostage a member of The Ruperts, I swear. At least, I didn’t I . We are fans. Okay, superfans who spend all of our free time tweeting about the boys and updating our fan tumblrs. But so what, that’s what you do when you love a group so much it hurts.

Review- Sloane and her friends are big fans of the Ruperts when they are having this big thanksgiving concert they didn’t get tickets but they got rooms in the hotel in hope to see the boys but then it goes bad when they end up holding one of the boys hostage the one that no one likes cause he’s a jerk and he can’t sing . Sloane wants to let him go but the others have other motives . Her best friend is keeping things from her they get access to his phone and we find out Rupert P is gay . Erin slept with one of the Rupert’s and she wants to get back at them and turn them into nothing . Sloane goes on the roof to get some space and there she meets Rupert K her favorite they end up talking and when she gets back Rupert P is dead I liked this book it was enjoyable and fun to read she meets up with Rupert K again they talk then they kiss which was cute . But so much happens in this book Isabelle tweets that he quit the band they move the body into the boys room and the other Rupert throw the body which gets them jail time and Rupert k ended writing a solo about Sloane but it wasn’t her real name which I didn’t see coming Rupert P “Girlfriend” ending up killing Rupert P which I’m not surprised . In the end this book was so so for me I liked it but didn’t love it .
Quotes-“Because the truth is, it isn’t worth loving something if you aren’t going to love it all the way

“Happiness isn’t always easy,” he’d said. “But it’s a priority.”

“They just want to be part of the moment. A moment that’s much larger than them, and even larger than us.”

Book Review: Everything Everything Nicole Yoon

Everything, EverythingEverything, Everything by Nicola Yoon
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

December 29- January 19

My disease is as rare as it is famous. Basically, I’m allergic to the world. I don’t leave my house, have not left my house in seventeen years. The only people I ever see are my mom and my nurse, Carla.

But then one day, a moving truck arrives next door. I look out my window, and I see him. He’s tall, lean and wearing all black—black T-shirt, black jeans, black sneakers, and a black knit cap that covers his hair completely. He catches me looking and stares at me. I stare right back. His name is Olly.

Maybe we can’t predict the future, but we can predict some things. For example, I am certainly going to fall in love with Olly. It’s almost certainly going to be a disaster.

Review- This book was beautiful . This is about Maddy who is allergic to the world she can’t go outside but when a new neighbor moves next door everything changes his name is Olly he has a tough home life his dad is a drunk and abuses his family . So they start messaging each other she wants to meet Olly and she finds a way how I love the way they talk to each other Olly is adorable he wears all black clothing and loves jumping and moving his body they start to fall for each other then end up kissing . one night Olly’s father is beating up Olly she freaks and goes outside her mom freaks . And her mom takes away the computer so they have problems contacting each other . Maddy leaves her house and goes to Olly they decide to go on a trip Hawaii she told him she had pills so they leave and go there and they swim they eat she loves him he loves her they have a very intimate moment oh my god :O and then Maddy gets sick she goes back home she tells him that there wasn’t pills and she ends the talking with Olly even though she misses him but when she gets an email telling her she was never sick she starts to suspect and she finds out she was never sick her mom lied to her . Maddy’s mom went though a lot when her husband and son were killed and she never healed . Maddy goes to NYC to go to Olly and the scene in the bookstore so cute I loved this book beautiful writing so amazing .
Quotes-Love is worth everything. Everything.”

Sometimes I reread my favorite books from back to front. I start with the last chapter and read backward until I get to the beginning. When you read this way, characters go from hope to despair, from self-knowledge to doubt. In love stories, couples start out as lovers and end as strangers. Coming-of-age books become stories of losing your way. Your favorite characters come back to life.”

I read once that, on average, we replace the majority of our cells every seven years. Even more amazing: we change the upper layers of our skin every two weeks. If all the cells in our body did this, we’d be immortal. But some of our cells, like the ones in our brains, don’t renew. They age, and age us. In two weeks my skin will have no memory of Olly’s hand on mine, but my brain will remember. We can have immortality or the memory of touch. But we can’t have both.

You can’t predict the future. It turns out that you can’t predict the past either. Time moves in both directions – forward and backward – and what happens here and now changes them both.”

Book Review: the assassin and the Desert sarah j . Maas

The Assassin and the Desert (Throne of Glass, #0.3)The Assassin and the Desert by Sarah J. Maas
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

August 31-September 3

The Silent Assassins of the Red Desert aren’t much for conversation, and Celaena Sardothien wouldn’t have it any other way. She’s not there to chatter, she’s there to hone her craft as the world’s most feared killer for hire. When the quiet is shattered by forces who want to destroy the Silent Assassins, Celaena must find a way to stop them, or she’ll be lucky to leave the desert alive

Review- This novella wasn’t my favorite but I still enjoyed the story Celaena must go to the silent master to train with him and get the letter of approval . When she gets there she meets a girl who is going to be her roommate for a month Ansel I felt something was off about her she has a very dark past but her and Celaena start to become friends .When her and Ansel have to go on a trip they end up steeling horses . The master finally agrees to train her , Celena has been thinking of Sam and how Aroben beat her . At this dance thing that they were having she dances with the masters son and when he was about to kiss her she couldn’t do it cause of sam I ship them so bad to bad I know what happens stupid spoilers 😦 but in the end Ansel turns out to be evil and drugs Celena and she figures it out she ended up killing Mickal and the masters son was inured it comes to a fight to the death and she doesn’t kill Ansel she lets her go . The master gives her the letter and some gold to pay off Aroben I hate that guy so much it was a great story onto the next one .
Quotes-
Words could be just as deadly as steel.”

If you can learn to endure pain, you can survive anything. Some people learn to embrace it—to love it. Some endure it through drowning it in sorrow, or by making themselves forget. Others turn it into anger. But Ansel let her pain become hate, and let it consume her until she became something else entirely—a person I don’t think she ever wished to be”

Well, he was certainly desirable-as desirable as Sam, maybe. Sam-when had she ever thought of him as desirable? He’d laugh until he died if ever knew she thought of him like that.

As the memory of that day echoed through her, she remembered the words Sam kept screaming at Arobynn, as the King of the Assassins beat her, the words that she’d somehow forgotten in the fog of pain: I’ll kill you! Sam had said it like he meant it. He’d bellowed it, again and again and again…”

Book Review: the assassin and the healer Sarah J. Maas

The Assassin and the Healer (Throne of Glass, #0.2)The Assassin and the Healer by Sarah J. Maas
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

August 27-30

Meet the Assassin: beautiful, defiant, destined for greatness. Celaena Sardothien has challenged her master. Now she must pay the price. Her journey to the Red Desert will be an arduous one, but it may change the fate of her cursed world forever..

Review- Celena meets a healer Irvine after being punished after the pirate fiasco and she has no idea what’s happened to Sam but at this inn she meets Irvine who is a healer I loved this story it was more interesting hearing about the healer and Irvine’s mother was killed and saved Irvine . Ivrine was attacked and Celena saved her and then taught her how to fight which she ends up having to use when one of the guys comes back but she faught well . Celena left Irvine money so she could go anywhere this was an interesting story I enjoyed it .And of course Celena was a bassass fighting all those men .

Quotes-
“The girl wore her scars the way some women wore their finest jewelry.”

Let me give you a bit of advice.’ the girl said bitterly, ‘from one working girl to another; life isn’t easy, no matter where you are. You’ll make choices you think are right and then suffer for them.’ Those remarkable eyes flickered. ‘So if you’re going to be miserable, you might as well go to Antica and be miserable in the shadow of the Torre Cesme.”

Book Review: the assassin and the pirate lord sarah j . Maas

The Assassin and the Pirate Lord (Throne of Glass, #0.1)The Assassin and the Pirate Lord by Sarah J. Maas
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Summary- On a remote island in a tropical sea, Celaena Sardothien, feared assassin, has come for retribution. She’s been sent by the Assassin’s Guild to collect on a debt they are owed by the Lord of the Pirates. But when Celaena learns that the agreed payment is not in money, but in slaves, her mission suddenly changes—and she will risk everything to right the wrong she’s been sent to bring about.

Review- I haven’t read throne of glass but I’m so excited to after reading this Celaena is a badass . Celaena and Sam have to collect slaves from a pirate which Celaena is against and plans to free them . Sam and her don’t get along very well but they work together to free the slaves . They trick Rolf but it doesn’t work out well he catches them but Sam runs and Celana knocks him out and revels herself to be a sixteen year old girl which shocks the pirate. But the Slaves get away but is Sam safe I wasn’t to sure but she makes Rolf sign this paper saying he won’t allow slaves she finds sam they hug great ending I loved this story .

Quotes-
He couldn’t be dead. Not from the dagger, or those dozen pirates, or from the catapult. No, Sam couldn’t be so stupid that he’d get himself killed. She’d… she’d… Well she’d kill him if he was dead.”

She lifted her chin. “I’ve been shouting for you.”
Sam shrugged, sauntering over to her. “I figured you could wait a few minutes, given that I saved the day and all.” His brows rose high on his ash-covered face.
“Some hero.” She gestured to the ruin of the tower around them. “I’ve never seen such sloppy work”

Sam smiled, his brown eyes turning golden in the dawn. It was such a Sam look, the twinkle of mischief, the hint of exasperation, the kindness that would always, always make him a better person than she was.”

Book Review: We should hang out sometime Embarrassingly , a true story by Josh Sundquist

We Should Hang Out Sometime: Embarrassingly, a True StoryWe Should Hang Out Sometime: Embarrassingly, a True Story by Josh Sundquist
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

June 10-14

A bright, poignant, and deeply funny autobiographical account of coming of age as an amputee cancer survivor, from Josh Sundquist: Paralympic ski racer, YouTube star, and motivational speaker.

Josh Sundquist only ever had one girlfriend.
For twenty-three hours.
In eighth grade.

Why was Josh still single? To find out, he tracked down the girls he had tried to date and asked them straight up: What went wrong?

The results of Josh’s semiscientific, wholly hilarious investigation are captured here. From a disastrous Putt-Putt date involving a backward prosthetic foot, to his introduction to CFD (Close Fast Dancing), to a misguided “grand gesture” at a Miss America pageant, this story is about looking for love–or at least a girlfriend–in all the wrong places.

Review- I really loved this book I thought it was really funny it made me laugh many times . I sometimes read nonfiction but what I loved about this it just felt like a story not about someone’s life I did love the parts with graphs and when he would go back and talk to the girls of the failed relationships. I read this with audiobook so it was the experience even more better everyone should read it . And I love the line we should hang out sometime .And I could understand what Josh was going through see I have a learning difference and no way am I comparing loosing a limb to a learning difference it’s just I understand how people act when they learn that one thing about you.

Favorite Quotes-
Sometimes the best moments are the spontaneous ones you don’t plan for.

Too late , already worried .
That’s because you haven’t heard about my boots yet .
um , what i’ve got a pair of steel-toed boots under my bunk bed in my door , explained kyle . The next time you see Lily , if you don’t have have a DTR , I am going to put on those boots and I am going to kick you as hard as I possibly can in your balls.
excuse me ?
You heard me .
You’re serious ?
in your balls.
Steel ?
Yes , it’s an iron alloy. I’m sure you’ve heard of it.
Are you joking ?
Do I look like I’m joking ?
He doesn’t look like he joking , interjected Brad .
Did I mention I was the starting forward of my high school soccer team ? Asked Kyle . I’ve got a mean left foot .
The next time I see her ?
or else .
Dude…. I said , incredulous
Steel . Your balls . Think about .
I sighed , surrendering . Okay , you leave me no other
choice . Next time I see her it is .
You do that , my boots stay under my bed .
Thanks , I guess ?
What else are friends for ?

But when you’re faced with a significantly life- altering negative situation you can’t control , you grasp at the little things you can control . The little opportunities where you can make choices for yourself.
