Book Review: the last time we say goodbye Cynthia Hand

The Last Time We Say GoodbyeThe Last Time We Say Goodbye by Cynthia Hand
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

May 1- June 4

There’s death all around us.
We just don’t pay attention.
Until we do.

The last time Lex was happy, it was before. When she had a family that was whole. A boyfriend she loved. Friends who didn’t look at her like she might break down at any moment.

Now she’s just the girl whose brother killed himself. And it feels like that’s all she’ll ever be.

As Lex starts to put her life back together, she tries to block out what happened the night Tyler died. But there’s a secret she hasn’t told anyone-a text Tyler sent, that could have changed everything.

Lex’s brother is gone. But Lex is about to discover that a ghost doesn’t have to be real to keep you from moving on.

Review- This book was a beautiful take on a girl who has to deal with the aftermath of her brothers suicide Lex use to be happy she use to have a great boyfriend but after Ty died she had a hole in her chest she felt guilty her mom can’t take Ty being dead she keeps telling Lex her life is over and then Ty appears to Lex in her dreams and kind of like a ghost . When Lex finds a letter from Ty to his ex girlfriend Ashley Lex doesn’t know what to do she starts talking to Ty’s friend Damien who I knew right away would be into her before Steven and Lex started dating she revived a paper flower which then we find out was from Damien so sweet but she rejects him and she worries he is going to do something to himself cause he wrote this poem and before Patrick another one of ty’s friend killed himself Lex keeps seeing ty she ends up yelling at him once but in the end she gives Steven her journal to show him she got into MIT WOW and she finally got to say goodbye to Ty great book loved it .
Quotes –
“There’s death all around us. Everywhere we look. 1.8 people kill themselves every second. We just don’t pay attention. Until we do.”

This is going to sound trite, I suppose, but you never know when it’s going to be the last time. That you hug someone. That you kiss. That you say goodbye

People kept saying, ‘It’s going to be all right.’ That’s what they told me, over and over and over, like Don’t you worry, little girl, it will all be okay, because there’s got to be some bullshit overall rule of the universe that no matter what happens, no matter how bad it gets, everything will be all right in the end.”

“Yeah,” I murmur.

“And you know what I kept thinking? I kept thinking, That is a fucking lie. It is not going to be all right. It will never be all right, ever, ever again. So stop fucking lying to me.”

“Forgiveness is tricky, Alexis, because in the end it’s more about you than it is about the person who’s being forgiven.”

Summary-
A lyrical novel about family and friendship from critically acclaimed author Benjamin Alire Sáenz.

Aristotle is an angry teen with a brother in prison. Dante is a know-it-all who has an unusual way of looking at the world. When the two meet at the swimming pool, they seem to have nothing in common. But as the loners start spending time together, they discover that they share a special friendship—the kind that changes lives and lasts a lifetime. And it is through this friendship that Ari and Dante will learn the most important truths about themselves and the kind of people they want to be

This review contains spoilers !

Review- This book was amazing I loved it , it had so many messages in this this book it did have a perks of being a wallflower feel . So this is a book about Ari he’s a very angry character so one summer when he goes to the pool he meets Dante who offers to teach him how to swim I loved these two characters so Ari and Dante start hanging out these two boys are very different but I loved them so much I also loved the families of these two boys . Ari doesn’t understand his father cause he really doesn’t talk he wants to get to know him but doesn’t know how his brother is in prison and no one will talk about it Dante loves drawing and he’s a very caring person and then the accident holy crap Ari saves Dante from getting hit by a car I mean who does that Ari’s legs get run over and he doesn’t want to talk about the accident . Dante gives Ari his sketchpad I thought that was sweet but Ari doesn’t want to look at it I never understood that weird Dante is going to be moving away for 9 months cause his dad got this job offer Dante sends Ari this letters and in one of them he tells Ari he’s gay and he doesn’t know how to tell his dad cause he doesn’t want to disappoint him . When Dante comes back Dante gets beat up for kissing a boy what a couple of douchebags and then Ari finds the guy and punches him . Dante kisses Ari as an experiment Ari says it doesn’t work for him total lies I mean you don’t kiss guys back your not into or in general if your not gay . When his dad confronts Ari and says in in love with Dante Ari starts crying cause he doesn’t want to admit it but we all know he is so after bowling one night he and dante go look at the stars and Dante doesn’t want to be friends with Ari cause it’s to hard cause he’s in love with him but then Ari kisses Dante I was crying at this point I loved this book so much I will be reading this book over and over again .

Quotes.
I took Dante’s hand and held it.
How could I have ever been ashamed of loving Dante Quintana ?

From the minute I’d met Dante , I had fallen in love with him . I just didn’t let myself know it , think it feel it . My father was right . And it was truth what my mother says . We all fight our own private wars.

My name’s Dante , he said. that made me laugh harder . sorry I said
it’s okay . people laugh at my name ,
No, no I said . see, it’s just that my name’s Aristotle .

there are worse things in the world than a boy who likes to kiss other boys .

Everneath (Everneath, #1)Everneath by Brodi Ashton

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Book review- Everneath by Brodi Ashton Summary-
Last spring, Nikki Beckett vanished, sucked into an underworld known as the Everneath. Now she’s returned—to her old life, her family, her boyfriend—before she’s banished back to the underworld . . . this time forever. She has six months before the Everneath comes to claim her, six months for good-byes she can’t find the words for, six months to find redemption, if it exists.
 March  12-  29
Nikki longs to spend these precious months forgetting the Everneath and trying to reconnect with her boyfriend, Jack, the person most devastated by her disappearance—and the one person she loves more than anything. But there’s just one problem: Cole, the smoldering immortal who enticed her to the Everneath in the first place, has followed Nikki home. Cole wants to take over the throne in the underworld and is convinced Nikki is the key to making it happen. And he’ll do whatever it takes to bring her back, this time as his queen.

As Nikki’s time on the Surface draws to a close and her relationships begin slipping from her grasp, she is forced to make the hardest decision of her life: find a way to cheat fate and remain on the Surface with Jack or return to the Everneath and become Cole’s queen.

Review-

Cole the everling she spent all that time with wants to make her his queen she would be immortal and wouldn’t have to go to the tunnels but she refuses to feed off people . What I loved about this book was the mythology the story itself was so engrossing I liked Cole yes I love my bad boy characters . Nikki and Jack go to work at the soup kitchen and Mary is there Mary asks if Jack has forgiven Nikki which I thought was a weird connection until things started to connect Mary is Meredith a girl who was dating Maxwell .when she went to Everneeth she aged but Nikki didn’t because she had jack always thinking of her . When Mary was taken by the tunnels she told her about the bracelet so they looked at it and it had hieroglyphics on it they asked there teacher and a professor at a local college told them about it they were going for cole’s heart . Book Review: Hera the Goddess and her glory George O’Connor

Hera: The Goddess and Her Glory (Olympians, #3)

Hera: The Goddess and Her Glory by George O’Connor
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Hera: The Goddess and her Glory by George O’ConnorMy rating: 4 of 5 starsThe story of Hera, Queen of the Gods, and the heroes who won her favor.Volume 3 of Olympians, Hera: The Goddess and Her Glory, introduces readers to the Queen of the Gods and Goddesses in the Pantheon. This volume tells the tales of the many heroes who sought and won Hera’s patronage, most notably Hercules. In Olympians, O’Connor draws from primary documents to reconstruct and retell classic Greek myths. But these stories aren’t sedate, scholarly works. They’re action-packed, fast-paced, high-drama adventures with monsters, romance, and not a few huge explosions. O’Connor’s vibrant, kinetic art brings ancient tales to undeniable life, in a perfect fusion of super-hero aesthetics and ancient Greek mythology. March 15-16

Review- This one was a really good one Hera isn’t my favorite goddess she is a little crazy but I did like the story of Hercules it was an interesting story I’m going to pick up the next two at the library .

Book review Zeus by george o’connor March 14-15Summary- George O’Connor is a Greek mythology buff and a classic superhero comics fan, and he’s out to remind us how much our pantheon of superheroes (Superman, Batman, the X-Men, etc) owes to mankind’s ORIGINAL superheroes: the Greek pantheon. In OLYMPIANS, O’Connor draws from primary documents to reconstruct and retell classic Greek myths. But these stories aren’t sedate, scholarly works. They’re action-packed, fast-paced, high-drama adventures, with monsters, romance, and not a few huge explosions. Book review – Burn For Burn *Spoilers* February 5- 16 Summary – Postcard-perfect Jar Island is the kind of place where nobody locks their doors at night, where parents can sleep easy, knowing their daughters are tucked away safe and sound in their beds. But bad things can happen, even to good girls . . . and sometimes, the only way to make things right is to do something wrong. Lillia used to trust boys, but not anymore. Not after what happened this summer. And she’ll do whatever it takes to protect her little sister from the same fate. Kat is over the rumors, the insults, the cruel jokes made at her expense. It all goes back to one person–her ex-best friend. Now that she’s got friends who have her back, he’s going to be in big trouble.Three very different girls who come together to make things right. Will they go too far?

Review-Lilia , Mary and Kat are three different girls there not friends Lilia and Kat use to be but that was a long time ago but Lila , Mary and Kat are done waiting for Karma to catch up on the people who wronged them they decide to do it themselves So all three of them want revenge on three separate people Lila on Alex cause apparently he’s hooking up with her sister . Rennie cause She keeps badmouthing Kat they use to be best friends and Mary Reave who is a jackass and I hated him . Mary left years ago Reave use to pick on Mary she was bigger back then he called her big easy what piece of garbage what I liked about this book was the revenge even though in the end it kind of didn’t work out very well . Rennie she’s kind of a bitch on the last night of summer they met these guys on the beach and they end up going to these guys house for a party after they threw a party for Alex and Lila lost her virginity to one of those guys and Rennie let one of the guys she is a terrible friend . Kat and Alex hung out all summer but then she sees Alex and Nadia Lila’s younger sister what a pervert so then end up starting on Alex they take his poems mess up his skin it was kind of harmless knowing that he wasn’t actually hooking up with Nadia . When we found out why Mary really wants to take out Reave I wanted to punch him in the face and he’s a character he treated Mary like garbage he made her feel like they were friends but when they were around other people he acted like a jerk she tried to kill herself when she was younger what a terrible person so at homecoming they make sure Rennie doesn’t win and they drug Reave which turns out bad he fall off the stage and seizes HOLY CRAP and then he whispers big easy and then Mary screams and sets the electricity what is with her is she a witch or something I loved this book .

We Were LiarsWe Were Liars by E. Lockhart

January 24- 28

Summary – A beautiful and distinguished family.
A private island.
A brilliant, damaged girl; a passionate, political boy.

A revolution. An accident. A secret.
Lies upon lies.
True love.
The truth.

We Were Liars is a modern, sophisticated suspense novel from National Book Award finalist and Printz Award honoree E. Lockhart.
Read it.
And if anyone asks you how it ends, just LIE.

Review – Let me start out by saying this book was amazing the writing was poetic I loved this book . So I went in knowing this book was going to shock me and oh it did .

Cadence Joghney johnny Miren and gat are the liars . Every summer they spend it at st.clair home they have fun they spend together. candence falls in love with gat but something happends something big at summer 15 that no one will tell cadence . And she’s trying to figure it out what happened that summer when she comes back for summer 17 the st. claire house has been redone the gradfather is loosing this brain and cadence has these migrains that hurt her head and sometimes she wants to die they hurt so bad . Now I didn’t guess what the big thing was I thought someone hurt her or something but memories start coming back to her . The aunts fight over things in the house cadence gives away allot of her stuff. She wants to start over. Some things I didn’t like I really didn’t like most of this family execpt for the liars . The grandfather was power hungry and trying to control everything he was a jerk to gat cause he was another color ,what the heck and cadence’s mother was trying to keep gat and cadence away from each other . the grandfather even threatened his daughter carrie that if he married ed she would be cut off that’s kind of sick . when they decide to do this big thing to set fire to the place to keep people in the family from fighting I thought it was kind of nuts . In the end the dogs died in the fire I cried at that they started . It was bad and then cadence is crying and then she remembers the big thing THEY DIED all execpt from her . Now were they ghost or hallucinations not really sure but I was shocked but they were there for her when she needed them most I cried at the end this book was amazing .

Book Review: in real life Cory doctorow

In Real LifeIn Real Life by Cory Doctorow
My rating: 3 of 5 stars

November 16-16

Summary – Anda loves Coarsegold Online, the massively-multiplayer role playing game that she spends most of her free time on. It’s a place where she can be a leader, a fighter, a hero. It’s a place where she can meet people from all over the world, and make friends. Gaming is, for Anda, entirely a good thing.

But things become a lot more complicated when Anda befriends a gold farmer – a poor Chinese kid whose avatar in the game illegally collects valuable objects and then sells them to players from developed countries with money to burn. This behavior is strictly against the rules in Coarsegold, but Anda soon comes to realize that questions of right and wrong are a lot less straightforward when a real person’s real livelihood is at stake.

From acclaimed teen author and digerati bigwig Cory Doctorow and rising star cartoonist Jen Wang, In Real Life is a sensitive, thoughtful look at adolescence, gaming, poverty, and culture-clash.

Review- Anda has started playing Coursegold it’s an online game is getting payed to kill this gold farmers until she meets a Chinese kid who is in trouble in real life what I loved about this story was the art I love the drawings and that Anda is not a typical girl this was a very enjoyable story about gaming and friendship until she gets banned from the game for getting money which is against the rules she helps out the kid and gets back into the game and officially joins the guild I highly suggest you read this graphic novel
