Book Review: elevated Elana Johnson

ElevatedElevated by Elana Johnson
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Read from December 18-19

Summary- The last person seventeen-year-old Eleanor Livingston wants to see on the elevator—let alone get stuck with—is her ex-boyfriend Travis, the guy she’s been avoiding for five months.

Plagued with the belief that when she speaks the truth, bad things happen, Elly hasn’t told Trav anything. Not why she broke up with him and cut off all contact. Not what happened the day her father returned from his deployment to Afghanistan. And certainly not that she misses him and still thinks about him everyday.

But with nowhere to hide and Travis so close it hurts, Elly’s worried she won’t be able to contain her secrets for long. She’s terrified of finally revealing the truth, because she can’t bear to watch a tragedy befall the boy she still loves.

Review – Elly has given up talking to Travis after what happened with Honesty until they get stuck in a elevator and there stuck talking about the past together . Elly is in love with Travis but he’s dating Honesty Elly’s best friend , Elly thinks every time she speaks bad things happen to the one’s she loves she also says allot of childhood songs like bubble gum bubble gum . I loved this book I love verse books it was 300 pages and felt like 100 I read it in a day and a half. I loved the story it was sad and shocking at points I didn’t like how Travis treated Elly after he broke up with Honesty he didn’t even tell Honesty he was with Elly like what the heck dude sn’t it enough you were into Elly but kept dating Honesty You don’t do that . what I found shocking was that Elly found out she was pregnant I was like what the hell . I felt bad for Travis is some parts like with his mom and oh my god Jesse he was into Elly also he took Elly to prom because Travis asked him to he was really nice to Elly he was a good friend to her and oh my god Honesty what happened to her was really bad . and when I we find out Elly lost the baby so sad Elly was planing on leaving for California and Elly and Travis left on good terms I loved this book.

Favorite quotes-
it’s torture to be reminded of his taste every time I peel an orange

some things are unforgivable some things erase a decade of memories some things obliterate a lifetime of plans .

Best friends can claim it’s forever when really it’s just until they grow tired of putting up with you .

But I can’t stay here without deliverance from the past.

Book Review: in real life Cory doctorow

In Real LifeIn Real Life by Cory Doctorow
My rating: 3 of 5 stars

November 16-16

Summary – Anda loves Coarsegold Online, the massively-multiplayer role playing game that she spends most of her free time on. It’s a place where she can be a leader, a fighter, a hero. It’s a place where she can meet people from all over the world, and make friends. Gaming is, for Anda, entirely a good thing.

But things become a lot more complicated when Anda befriends a gold farmer – a poor Chinese kid whose avatar in the game illegally collects valuable objects and then sells them to players from developed countries with money to burn. This behavior is strictly against the rules in Coarsegold, but Anda soon comes to realize that questions of right and wrong are a lot less straightforward when a real person’s real livelihood is at stake.

From acclaimed teen author and digerati bigwig Cory Doctorow and rising star cartoonist Jen Wang, In Real Life is a sensitive, thoughtful look at adolescence, gaming, poverty, and culture-clash.

Review- Anda has started playing Coursegold it’s an online game is getting payed to kill this gold farmers until she meets a Chinese kid who is in trouble in real life what I loved about this story was the art I love the drawings and that Anda is not a typical girl this was a very enjoyable story about gaming and friendship until she gets banned from the game for getting money which is against the rules she helps out the kid and gets back into the game and officially joins the guild I highly suggest you read this graphic novel

Book Review: crossing the line katie mcgarry

Crossing the Line (Pushing the Limits, #1.1)Crossing the Line by Katie McGarry
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

November 12- November 12

Summary – Katie McGarry captivated readers with her “riveting, emotional”* Young Adult debut, Pushing the Limits. In this gripping novella, she tells the story of Lila and Lincoln, who discover that sometimes it’s worth crossing the line for love…

Lila McCormick, Echo’s best friend from Pushing the Limits, first met Lincoln Turner when tragedy struck both their lives. But she never expected their surprise encounter would lead to two years of exchanging letters—or that she’d fall for the boy she’s only seen once. Their relationship is a secret, but Lila feels closer to Lincoln than anyone else. Until she finds out that he lied to her about the one thing she depended on him for the most.

Hurting Lila is the last thing Lincoln wanted. For two years, her letters have been the only thing getting him through the day. Admitting his feelings would cross a line he’s never dared breach before. But Lincoln will do whatever it takes to fix his mistakes, earn Lila’s forgiveness—and finally win a chance to be with the girl he loves.

Review – Lila is going to Florida for college and she thought someone was going to be coming with her but it turns out no Lincoln isn’t he lied to her Lincoln and Lila have been writing letters for two years when they met at Eco’s brother’s funeral and Lincoln’s brother died also they’ve fallen for each other Lila is still scared to go alone but when Lincoln comes all the way to make up with Lila she slams the door in his face but she was happy he brought her purple flowers her favorite when she sees someone she ends up calling Lincoln people think’s she nuts but it was a prank by her ex and she’s ready to get even Lincoln and Lila go stalk them get paintball them I loved that scene so funny I loved this novella it was so cute I love Lila and Lincoln as a couple . Lincoln had to go through allot to get where he was and so did Lila she was afraid to be alone they work for each other I do recommend you read this story but read pushing the limits first .

favorite quotes – If it wasn’t for Noah, Echo would need me more… she would still be insecure, she would still be obsessing over the scars on her arms. She possibly wouldn’t have recovered her memory of the night she got them. If it wasn’t for him, she wouldn’t be moving on with her life. Damn him for being a great guy.”

“The entire sky erupted into hundreds of streaks of light. I never felt so alive. I wished that you were here with me or me with you. But I think you were. Call me crazy, but it was a moment, Lila, and I’m glad I shared it with you. Even if it was from a couple hundred miles away. ~Lincoln

“Her kiss is soft and warm-inviting. We both explore, a hesitant dance as we glide over lines neither of us imagined crossing.”

Summary – From the moment she stepped foot in NYC, Addison Stone’s subversive street art made her someone to watch, and her violent drowning left her fans and critics craving to know more. Even Thalia smiled at that. “And I need to use the dam restroom.”

I started cracking up, and Thalia and Grover joined in, while Zoe just looked at me. “I do not understand.”

Summary –
Sydney Sage is an Alchemist, one of a group of humans who dabble in magic and serve to bridge the worlds of humans and vampires. They protect vampire secrets–and human lives.”
In the aftermath of a forbidden moment that rocked Sydney to her core, she finds herself struggling to draw the line between her Alchemist teachings and what her heart is urging her to do. Then she meets alluring, rebellious Marcus Finch–a former Alchemist who escaped against all odds, and is now on the run. Marcus wants to teach Sydney the secrets he claims the Alchemists are hiding from her. But as he pushes her to rebel against the people who raised her, Sydney finds that breaking free is harder than she thought. There is an old and mysterious magic rooted deeply within her. And as she searches for an evil magic user targeting powerful young witches, she realizes that her only hope is to embrace her magical blood–or else she might be next.

review- This book was awesome Sydney was a badass witch and I was screaming at her at some points with adrian like you like him he likes you now be together so in this book there is a witch that is sucking life out of other witches and it’s mrs . terwilliger’s sister this isn’t good and then sydney has to go to a wedding Sonya’s in fact I’m so happy that sonya got married oh and rose was there good to her in guardian action . so Adrian is trying to convince sydney that she loves him and I know she does and she’s looking for marcus and she finds him and he keeps telling her that she needs to break the tattoo and she doesn’t want to . Her and Adrian are trying to warn other girls about the soul sucking witch and they go to the bed and breakfast where mrs. terwilliger’s sister is staying which I thought was idiotic I mean she could be there and suck her soul out and she keeps going into Sydney’s dreams . sydney and adrian raise a dragon that scene was so funny and it turns out that the first people that the dragon see’s and it was sydney and adrian there dragon parents hahaha . she had to seduce ian and get her snuck in and she uses a invisible spell she hits a fire ball at the computer . She finds out the alchemist have been working with the warriors of the light I knew it all a long she breaks the tattoo and in her dream with adrian she shows him the dress and they start making out and oh my god and then she wakes up and she know it was a mistake oh and jill saw it all . sydney car blows up and her necklace was inside and it burt her oh the girl at the bed and breakfast she has been soul sucking she even hurt veronica sydney attacks her sets her teachers house on fire and then we find out angeline and tray have been hooking up what a witch I kind of guessed that though . she decides to go to mexico but on last minute she decides not to go oh and she goes to adrian and awww it’s so sweet oh and then zoe shows up this ought to be good ,this one was my favorite so far.

favorite quotes-

Let me get this straight . The future of our relationship hinged on advice from a fifteen-year old girl , a probally untrue story from a one – eyed chihuahua trainer , and me unromantically – yet skillfully – kissing you on top of silver-ware and china ? yep , I said . page 395

“Whatever happened to the dragon?”

I mustered my primmest tone. “He has a name, you know.”

Adrian pulled back and gave me a curious look. “I didn’t know, actually. What’d you decide on?”

“Hopper.” When Adrian laughed, I added, “Best rabbit ever. He’d be proud to know his name is being passed on.”
“Yes, I’m sure he would. Did you name the Mustang too?”
“I think you mean the Ivashkinator.”

He stared at me in wonder. “I told you I loved you, right?
“Yes,” I assured him. “Many times.”

“I sent a quick text to Adrian: I have a hickey! You can’t ever kiss me again. I honestly hadn’t expected him to be awake this early, so I was surprised to get a response: Okay. I won’t kiss you on your neck again.

So typical of him. No! You can’t ever kiss me ANYWHERE. You said you were going to keep your distance.

I’m trying, he wrote back. But you won’t keep your distance from me.

I didn’t dignify that with a response.”

You made me summon a dragon ! I exclaimed I most certainly did not , she responded Callistanas are a type of demon . I froze A demon well she amended . A very minor and generally benign kind . I didn’t reply for a while Sydney ? are you there ? you had me summon a demon , I replied , voice stiff . you know how I feel about evil and the supernatural . You spent all this time trying to convince me that the magic we do is all for some greater good in the battle against evil , and yet you made me summon a creature of hell. Creature of hell ? she snorted . Hardly . you know nothing about demons . I told you it’s benign , didn’t I ? callstatans can be very useful . they’ll warn you if dark magic is nearby and will even defend you if you’re attacked – not that they can do much damage . I wasn’t buying it . If they’re so useful , then why don’t you have one ? oh , well I’m at a level where I can sense dark magic on my own . That , and – if you’ll forgive my language – callistanas are a real pain in the ass. they make the most irritating noise when they’re hungry . Cats are more than adequate for my needs. page 280

Book Review: isla and the happily ever after Stephanie Perkins

Isla and the Happily Ever After (Anna and the French Kiss, #3)Isla and the Happily Ever After by Stephanie Perkins
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

read from August 20- September 8

Summary -Love ignites in the City That Never Sleeps, but can it last?

Hopeless romantic Isla has had a crush on introspective cartoonist Josh since their first year at the School of America in Paris. And after a chance encounter in Manhattan over the summer, romance might be closer than Isla imagined. But as they begin their senior year back in France, Isla and Josh are forced to confront the challenges every young couple must face, including family drama, uncertainty about their college futures, and the very real possibility of being apart.

Featuring cameos from fan-favorites Anna, Étienne, Lola, and Cricket, this sweet and sexy story of true love—set against the stunning backdrops of New York City, Paris, and Barcelona—is a swoonworthy conclusion to Stephanie Perkins’s beloved series.

Review- isla is at kismet when she sees her crush from school Josh she’s kind of high on meds from getting her wisdom teeth out and Josh and isla talk and he draws her and then she wants to see him again but he wasn’t at kismet they go back to school and she sees josh again they start talking and hanging out and then josh says to isla she likes him and then they start dating it’s so cute there date and then they decide to go to Barcelona Josh says it would be fine they go they have a great time they go to the hotel and have sex it was beautiful and then it goes bad they get caught josh gets expelled isla is mad a kurt and hattie cause Kurt told hattie and nate overheard Josh heads back to NYC and Isla is in france she is applying to dartmath and Josh is planing on going to this cartoonist school then allot of things go bad it’s hard for them to talk his father is up for reelection and around then isla gets a package it’s his graphic novel and isla isn’t a fan cause well his ex girlfriend is there allot but she’s there at the end and she tells josh this and it isn’t very nice and they g et in a stupid fight and isla picks at that josh doesn’t really love her and Josh keeps calling and calling and when isla finally realizes josh does love her it’s to late . Until when she gets back to school and she makes up with Hattie and gives her the treehouse and Hattie tells her that she mailed the signed book isla got josh and then josh calls her he’s in france he wants isla to meet his friends . Anna st. clair lola cricket and even Meredith is there and then something big happens St.clair propses to Anna OH MY GOD it was so cute . Josh walks isla home and gives her the graphic novel again but it’s different this time and she finishes it and she runs to him so cute they spend two weeks together . then it’s june and there back at kismet and josh is finished with the book and they on the happily ever after I loved it isla is going to darthmath and there going to be together I loved there story and it was nice to see my other favorites also.

Favorite quotes – does this…does this mean you want to be my boyfriend?” My question sounds both immature and momentous. But Josh doesn’t flinch.
“Yes,” he says. “I want.”

“We’re enveloped in pitch black. “Wait here,” I whisper.
“Are you getting your ax?”
“Handcuffs.”
“Kinky. But, okay, I’ll try it.”

“Several yards away – closer to the cathedral’s legendary carved doorways – Anna and St. Clair are standing on top of Point Zéro. It’s been hand-brushed clear of its dusting of snow. Point Zéro is the bronze marker, a star, which designates the official centre of France. There are at least two superstitions about it. One is that anyone who stands on the star will return to France. The other is that you can use it to make a wish.
“Wait for it,” Josh says.

Lola stands straighter, excited. “No!”

“Yes,” Cricket says.

I’m the last one in the dark, until – suddenly – it happens. St. Clair removes something from his pocket. And then he gets down on one knee.

Anna’s entire body lights with shock and joy and love. She nods a vigorous yes. St. Clair places the ring on her finger. He stands, she throws her arms around him, and they kiss. He spins her in a circle. They kiss again. Deep, hungry, long. And then he turns to us and waves – with the biggest smile I’ve ever seen – clearly aware that we’ve been standing here the whole time.”

Book Review: if i stay Gayle forman

If I Stay (If I Stay, #1)If I Stay by Gayle Forman
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

August 13-23

Summary -The critically acclaimed, bestselling novel from Gayle Forman, author of Where She Went, Just One Day, and the forthcoming Just One Year.

On a day that started like any other, Mia had everything: a loving family, a gorgeous, admiring boyfriend, and a bright future full of music and full of choices. In an instant, almost all of that is taken from her. Caught between life and death, between a happy past and an unknowable future, Mia spends one critical day contemplating the only decision she has left. It is the most important decision she’ll ever make.

Simultaneously tragic and hopeful, this is a romantic, riveting, and ultimately uplifting story about memory, music, living, dying, loving.

Review – I wanted to read If i stay before the movie came out it has officially came out I haven’t seen it yet though I’m seeing it today I can’t wait . If I stay is about Mia she is a cello player and on her way to being at juliard in new york and leaving her rocker boyfriend Adam one day Mia and her family are driving and it’s snowing like really bad and they get into a car crash her entire family dies but she’s kind of floating over her body like she is a ghost but not really what I loved about this book was the writing it was beautifully written this book is taken place in 24 hours so instead of chapters there is time . I love the Flashbacks like Adam and Mia’s first date it was so cute Adam and Mia share the love of music and I love that . Mia’s family are kind of rockers to Mia’s dad was in a band with there family friend Henry and I love Henry’s wife Willow she’s awesome she’s a nurse and she totally takes charge in getting Adam into see Mia . Mia fallows her body back to the hospital and through this she goes through surgery and sapose to be fine if she can breathe on her own . Now when Adam hears about Mia he has to get in to see her and Kim and Adam almost get arrested if it weren’t for Willow , Adam and Kim get this rocker girl to come and cause a ruckus and that mean nurse gets them out and then Willow steps in and Adam talks to Mia and then he leaves he says he’s going to come back . Kim talks to Mia and tells her even though her family has died she still has a family which was sweet and I started crying I love there friendship . Adam comes back and he tells her he wants her to stay and if she needed him to go he would then she’s back she squeezes his hand and she’s back I loved this book so much I cried I swooned at the romance it was very good .

Favorite quotes –

“If I stay. If I live. It’s up to me.
All this business about medically induced comas is just doctor talk. It’s not up to the doctors. It’s not up to the absentee angels. It’s not even up to God who, if He exists, is nowhere around right now. It’s up to me.”

“How am I supposed to decide this? How can I possibly stay without mom and dad? How can I leave without Teddy? Or Adam? This is too much. I don’t even understand how it all works, why I’m here in the state that I’m in or how to get out of it if I wanted to. If I were to say, I want to wake up, would I wake up right now? I’ve already tried snapping my heels to find Teddy and tried to beam myself to Hawaii, and that didn’t work. This seems a whole lot more complicated.
But in spite of that, I believe it’s true. I hear the nurse’s words again. I am running the show. Everyone’s waiting on me.
I decide. I know this now.
And this terrifies me more than anything else that has happened today.”

“But the you who you are tonight is the same you I was in love with yesterday, the same you I’ll be in love with tomorrow.”

I’m not sure this is a world I belong in anymore. I’m not sure that I want to wake up.

“If you stay, I’ll do whatever you want. I’ll quit the band, go with you to New York. But if you need me to go away, I’ll do that, too. I was talking to Liz and she said maybe coming back to your old life would be too painful, that maybe it’d be easier for you to erase us. And that would suck, but I’d do it. I can lose you like that if I don’t lose you today. I’ll let you go. If you stay.”

Book Review: lola and the boy next door Stephanie Perkins

Lola and the Boy Next Door (Anna and the French Kiss, #2)Lola and the Boy Next Door by Stephanie Perkins
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

read August 18- 20

Summary -Budding designer Lola Nolan doesn’t believe in fashion…she believes in costume. The more expressive the outfit–more sparkly, more fun, more wild–the better. But even though Lola’s style is outrageous, she’s a devoted daughter and friend with some big plans for the future. And everything is pretty perfect (right down to her hot rocker boyfriend) until the dreaded Bell twins, Calliope and Cricket, return to the neighborhood.

When Cricket–a gifted inventor–steps out from his twin sister’s shadow and back into Lola’s life, she must finally reconcile a lifetime of feelings for the boy next door.

Review – Meet Lola Nolan she believe is costume she loves dressing up as someone different every day . Lola ‘s Parents don’t like Lola’s boyfriend Max he’s in a band and he’s older than her but it all fine at sunday brunch when she notices people moving next door and hopes that it isn’t the bell twins Cricket Bell broke Lola’s heart two years ago . I loved this book so much I loved Cricket he is my new book boyfriend . Lola works at the movie theater with Anna and St. clair , St. clair doesn’t really work there at first but he does eventually I loved that they were in the book . Cricket Bell enters Lola’s life again and he tells her he’s in love with her and she wanted to show him that she doesn’t care but she hurts him leads him on does things she isn’t proud of and stays with a guy who is a jerk and doesn’t approve of her friendship with Cricket I didn’t like max at all first I thought he was sweet then he showed his true colors he’s rude and he doesn’t like her best friend Lindsey . I was cheering on there realisonship though this book I was like Lola I know you want to be with Cricket everyone does . Then Lola’s birth mom has to stay with them for awhile and she’s mad . I loved that Cricket and Lola talked through there windows all the time it was cute . When St. Clair told Lola that he’s been in a similar situation so Lola breaks up with max but she doesn’t want to be with Cricket until she ‘s fine again like what . Lola fixes colipe outfit and they talk and when it comes to the dance Cricket shows up and they kiss finally I love them together there so cute . I loved this as much as anna awesome book .

Favorite quotes – Lola, you were the only person I wanted there that night. I was crazy about you, but I didn’t know what to do. It was paralzing . There were so many times when I wanted to take your hand , but…. I couldn’t . That one small move felt impossible . Now I’m staring at my hands , too . I would have let you take it . I know his voice cracks. Page 133

Remember that that I made you the elevator ? he suddenly asks I gave him a faint smile . How could I forget ? that was the day I had my first kiss . My smile fades . I’m better now . he sets the apple beside me . At kissing just so you . Page 135

I step back into him , my nose against his . Guess what ? I hiss back . I am a liar . I do like cricket bell. You’re right . I’ve been hanging out with him this whole time ! And he’s been in my bedroom , and I’ve been in his . And I want him , Max I want him . He’s shacking with rage . Get . out . I grab my purse and throw open his front door . I never want to see you again . His voice is deathly low . You are nothing to me . Do you understand Yes I say . Thank you for making things so clear. Page 254

Anna Prods St. clair’s shoulder . Come on . weren’t you going to show me that thing ? what thing ? she stares at him . he stares back. She cocks her head toward cricket and me. ah , yes St. clair stands that thing. they rush out . The door shuts, and St. Clair shouts Lola cricket wants to show you his thing too-oo! page 295
