Book Review : Jack of Hearts Lev A.C Rosen

Jack of Hearts (And Other Parts)

Jack of Hearts by Lev A.C. Rosen

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Dec 11 – Jan 23

Pretty Little Liars meets Dan Savage in this modern, fresh, YA debut about an unapologetically queer teen working to uncover a blackmailer threatening him back into the closet.

Jack has a lot of sex–and he’s not ashamed of it. While he’s sometimes ostracized, and gossip constantly rages about his sex life, Jack always believes that “it could be worse.”

But then, the worse unexpectedly strikes: When Jack starts writing a teen sex advice column for an online site, he begins to receive creepy and threatening love letters that attempt to force Jack to curb his sexuality and personality. Now it’s up to Jack an his best friends to uncover the stalker–before their love becomes dangerous.

Ground-breaking and page-turning, Jack of Hearts (and other parts) celebrates the freedom to be oneself, especially in the face of adversity.

Review : I loved this book this is about Jack who is gay and very open to have sex just no relationship he wants to have fun . His friend Jenna asks him to do a column on sex for her site and he finally agrees . He starts getting these pink notes and they start to freak him out they were creepy as fuck . They start get threatening his friends Jenna and Ben . And they get mad when he continues to hook up with more guys and he starts getting depressed . until one day when he’s in the boys bathroom and he hears the three girls who gossip about him one of them has paper cuts and he fugues it out it’s Caitlin first I didn’t expect it to be a girl . He records her confessing and gets her expelled good that girl had issues . Jack is back to his self and enjoying his life .

Quotes : “Jack?” Mom calls from outside my room. “You home?” “Just a sec, Mom,” I yell back. Peter stares at me, gives me a “what do I do?” look, and I just shake my head. I throw my sheets in a pile on the bed as Mom knocks on my door. “Mom, I have a friend over,” I say through the door. There’s a pause. Somehow I can hear the expression on her face. I look over at Peter, who’s gotten his clothes on, and shrug apologetically. He smiles—this is funny to him, now that he’s dressed. I open the door. My mom is standing right up against it, her expression matching Peter’s. “Hi,” she says, her voice innocent. She looks past me at Peter, who waves. “I’m Jack’s mom, Ruth.” “Hi,” Peter says, and to my relief no one offers to shake hands. Peter hasn’t washed his yet. “I’m Peter.” “Nice to meet you

I know it’s not the same—gay and asexual—but I want to tell you as someone who thought they were broken, and everyone was staring at them and knew, that you are not broken. Plus, you might not be asexual, you might just not be interested in sex now, or only be interested in sex with people once you know them and have a bond with them, or maybe you’re only turned on by a very particular kind of sex or fetish that you haven’t discovered. But as long as everyone is consenting, there’s nothing wrong with your desire, or with your not having desire. We’re all wired differently.

in that moment, I get to be me. And if you don’t like that, fuck off.

Book Review: The poet x Elizabeth Acevedo

The Poet X

The Poet X by Elizabeth Acevedo

My rating: 3 of 5 stars

Jan 4-12

A young girl in Harlem discovers slam poetry as a way to understand her mother’s religion and her own relationship to the world. Debut novel of renowned slam poet Elizabeth Acevedo.

Xiomara Batista feels unheard and unable to hide in her Harlem neighborhood. Ever since her body grew into curves, she has learned to let her fists and her fierceness do the talking.

But Xiomara has plenty she wants to say, and she pours all her frustration and passion onto the pages of a leather notebook, reciting the words to herself like prayers—especially after she catches feelings for a boy in her bio class named Aman, who her family can never know about. With Mami’s determination to force her daughter to obey the laws of the church, Xiomara understands that her thoughts are best kept to herself.

So when she is invited to join her school’s slam poetry club, she doesn’t know how she could ever attend without her mami finding out, much less speak her words out loud. But still, she can’t stop thinking about performing her poems.

Because in the face of a world that may not want to hear her, Xiomara refuses to be silent

Review : I loved this book I highly reccomend the audiobook . Xiomara is a teenager who is going through a lot her body has changed a lot her mother has all these religious views and xiomara doesn’t know what she believes anymore she meets this guy who she really likes but shit goes real when her mom finds out . this book is told in verse and I love verse books and the audiobook is read by the author and it was a beautifully written book . Xiomara finds out her twin brother is gay . Xiomara joins the poetry club where she gets to let out her emotions . after a big blow up with her family Xiomara calls the guy again and they start talking again . And she has her family priest help with her family to help them all talk this out . Xiomara finally performs her poem at the slam event . I believe everyone she read this book .
The only issue I have with this book is the religion and physical abuse aspect and it didn’t really get resolved .

Quotes :And I think about all the things we could be
if we were told our bodies were not built for them

When your body takes up more room than your voice you are always the target of well-aimed rumors,

“And isn’t that what a poem is? A lantern glowing in the dark.

Book Review : Snow and Mistletoe Alexa Riley

Snow and Mistletoe

Snow and Mistletoe by Alexa Riley

My rating: 3 of 5 stars

Dec 19-19

Noelle’s voice has captivated Alex, and she’s become his greatest obsession. Since he hired her to read audiobooks, listening to her is the only thing that makes his lonely world bearable. Thank God she’s never seen him. His scars would only scare her away.

Alex has starred in every fantasy Noelle’s had since she first heard his voice over the phone, and reading erotica samples to him only fuels her desire. Listening to him on the other end of the phone is the best part of her day, and she’s willing to do anything to please him.

On Christmas Eve a storm comes through, sending Noelle in search of her reclusive boss. Once she’s at his cabin with no place to go, there’s only one way to keep warm.

Review : This was a cute and sexy story Noelle is a audiobook narrator and she works for alex who she has a thing for but she’s never met him and on a storm one night she can’t get the file to send so she goes to his house . Alex has a thing for Noelle but he won’t ever act on it cause when he lived in New York there was a accident so he has some scaring on his face . So Noelle gets to his house and it’s awkward until they have to sleep in the same bed when the power goes out they end up having sex the next morning it was a cute Christmas story .

Quotes :
“I’ll make you so fucking happy, Noelle. I know you’re perfect for me. I’ve listened to you talk for hours on end. You’re it for me. I know it to my core, and I’ll spend every day showing you that I’m it for you. That we belong together.

After all the romance novels I’ve read, I seem to have found my own sweet, brooding, scared hero. I want to keep him, and I want him to want to keep me, too.”

Book Review : Girl made of stars Ashley Herring Blake

Girl Made of Stars

Girl Made of Stars by Ashley Herring Blake

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

December 9-12
TRIGGER WARNING FOR RAPE AND MOLESTING

Mara and Owen are as close as twins can get, so when Mara’s friend Hannah accuses Owen of rape, Mara doesn’t know what to think. Can her brother really be guilty of such a violent act? Torn between her family and her sense of right and wrong, Mara feels lost, and it doesn’t help that things are strained with her ex-girlfriend, Charlie. As Mara, Hannah, and Charlie come together in the aftermath of this terrible crime, Mara must face a trauma from her own past and decide where Charlie fits into her future. With sensitivity and openness, this timely novel confronts the difficult questions surrounding consent, victim blaming, and sexual assault.

Review : This book was hard to read it deals with a hard topic . Mara and her twin Owen go to this party and Owen goes off with his girlfriend but Mara wants to leave she sees her ex girlfriend and she came with owen and his best friend Alex so they leave and then things start getting bad when Hannah says Owen raped her cause that’s Mara’s friend but owen is her twin there family says they have to stick together but Mara can’t deny her gut feeling that Owen is lying but he won’t admit it . Charlie and Mara start talking again they go visit Hannah she tells Hannah that she believes her . This is hard for Mara to Mara was molested when she was in middle school from her teacher which is so fucked up I was angry reading this book mostly but I really loved it . They ended up dropping the rape cause cause there wasn’t enough evidence . Alex and Mara ended up hanging out a lot in this book they were using each other cause they were both lonely they almost had sex but Mara couldn’t do it . she told Hannah and Charlie about being molested and she told owen in the story way using the stars . Charlie and Mara get back together this book was really good .

Quote :

“Even girls made of stars are captives, bound at the wrists and traded like property. Even girls made of stars aren’t asked, aren’t believed, aren’t considered worth the effort unless they can offer something in return.
Even girls made of stars buy into those lies sometimes.

This. This is why I never said anything. Because no one ever believes the girl.

Thank you for coming to save me.” She laughs, but it’s soft. “I didn’t save you. I can’t save anyone.” “You can. You did.” “I just hate that we hurt like this, you know?” “What do you mean?” She grabs my hand and squeezes. “I think about the things we’ve talked about in Empower. Articles we’ve read about all the girls who were thrown away by boys like they meant nothing. All the times a girl’s voice seemed to mean less than a boy’s. All the times the courts sent out a shit ruling on a rape case. It never really hit me, you know? I mean, it did, but not like this. I never thought it’d be my story. Or yours. I never wanted to let this be our story.”

Book Review: Snow in love Melissa De la Cruz

Snow in Love

Snow in Love by Melissa de la Cruz

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Dec 7-10

What’s better than one deliciously cozy, swoon-worthy holiday story? Four of them, from some of today’s bestselling authors.

From KASIE WEST, a snowy road trip takes an unexpected detour when secrets and crushes are revealed.

From AIMEE FRIEDMAN, a Hanukkah miracle may just happen when a Jewish girl working as a department store elf finds love.

From MELISSA DE LA CRUZ, Christmas Eve gets a plot twist when a high school couple exchange surprising presents.

From NIC STONE, a scavenger hunt amid the holiday crowds at an airport turns totally romantic.

So grab a mug of hot cocoa, snuggle up, and get ready to fall in love…

Review :first story 5/5
Second story 4/5
Third 3/5
Fourth 5/5

Such a cute collection my favorites were the first and last story the third was my least favorite. The first story was so cute it kinda involved a roadtrip and secret santa . The second study was about this girl who got thos job as a elf and she liked this guy but he turned out to be a dick and she ended up liking the guy she worked with it was cute . The third story was just not good it’s about this couple in high school and the ended up selling there most expensive items to get each other Christmas gifts. The last story was a female female romance and it was so cute so these two girls who are going on vacation with each other who havent seen each other in years so they do kinda a treasure hunt it was adorable.

Book Review: Skin B.B Easton

Skin (44 Chapters, #1)

Skin by B.B. Easton

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

oct 16-21

Because BB Easton had so much fun writing her bestselling, award-winning memoir, 44 CHAPTERS ABOUT 4 MEN, she decided to give each of her four men his own steamy standalone. SKIN is Knight’s book—a gritty, taboo, forbidden love story based on true events.

In 1997, Ronald “Knight” McKnight was the meanest, most misunderstood boy at Peach State High School…perhaps on the entire planet. Knight hated everyone, except for me, BB—the perky, quirky punk chick with the locker next to his.

I, on the other hand, liked everybody except for Knight. I was scared sh*tless of him, actually. All I wanted was to marry Prince Eric-lookalike and king of the Peach State High punk scene, Lance Hightower, and have a million of his babies.

Unfortunately for me, Knight was even better at getting his way than I was, and once he got under my skin, my life would never be the same.

Book Review : Ive been curious about Knight since reading 44 chapters about 4 men and he’s a bit crazy and somehow BB attracts the attention of Knight who is one crazy motherfucker but he has a soft side he only shows to BB they have a kinda crazy friendship turned relationship . BB has a thing for this punk guy Lance hightower who I kinda sensed was gay and that was true but BB was trying to get this guys attention he ends up giving her drugs once in the bathroom which was kinda weird . Her best friend Julliet is dating this fucking asshole who sells drugs and Knight ends up punching him and Tony threatens BB with making her pay him Julliet turns out to be pregnant. Knight and BB have some good moments but then there aren’t some good times Knight ends up Killing a guy they break up BB is heartbroken she meets another guy who she tries to hook up with but Knight shows up and they stop seeing each other also but Knight is going into the army she gets her licence and she meets a guy working on cars his name is Harley he is the next book can’t wait to read it .

Quotes :

The next time some motherfucker makes you cry, you don’t say you’re sorry. Do you understand me?” His voice was quiet, but firm. I nodded and blinked rapidly. “You don’t get to be sorry.” I nodded again, looking at his mouth. His eyes were too intense. “Next time, you kick him in the fucking balls.”

Clearly no one had seen this boy smile before, because if they had, they’d be spending the rest of their lives trying to make him do it again.

Pressing his forehead against mine, Knight said, “I love you, Punk.” “I love you, too, Skin.

Book Review : A quiet kind of thunder Sara Barnard

A Quiet Kind of Thunder

A Quiet Kind of Thunder by Sara Barnard

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

sep 24-29

A girl who can’t speak and a boy who can’t hear go on a journey of self-discovery and find support with each other in this gripping, emotionally resonant novel from bestselling author Sara Barnard. Perfect for fans of Morgan Matson and Jandy Nelson.

Steffi doesn’t talk, but she has so much to say.
Rhys can’t hear, but he can listen.

Steffi has been a selective mute for most of her life. The condition’s name has always felt ironic to her, because she certainly does not “select” not to speak. In fact, she would give anything to be able to speak as easily and often as everyone around her can. She suffers from crippling anxiety, and uncontrollably, in most situations simply can’t open her mouth to get out the words.

Steffi’s been silent for so long that she feels completely invisible. But Rhys, the new boy at school, sees her. He’s deaf, and her knowledge of basic sign language means that she’s assigned to help him acclimate. To Rhys, it doesn’t matter that Steffi doesn’t talk. As they find ways to communicate, Steffi discovers that she does have a voice, and that she’s falling in love with the one person who makes her feel brave enough to use it. But as she starts to overcome a lifelong challenge, she’ll soon confront questions about the nature of her own identity and the very essence of what it is to know another person

Review : this book was beautiful I loved it Steffi is mute she meets Rhys who is deaf they start to form a friendship I cried a bit in this book cause I related so much to Steffi . Rhys and Steffi start dating . Steffi starts to talk a bit more . Rhys and Steffi decide to go on a secret trip but then a accident happens and Steffi has to talk to get Rhys to the hospital . Rhys sends steffi a email and she tells him to meet up with her and they talk and they decide to talk way more and no more secrets loved this book.

Quotes :

“Panic attacks are a lot like being drunk in some ways, you lose self-control. You cry for seemingly no reason. You deal with the hangover long into the next day.”

“Here are three separate but similar things: shyness, introversion and social anxiety. You can have one, two or all three of these things simultaneously. A lot of the time people thing they’re all the same thing, but that’s just not true. Extroverts can be shy, introverts can be bold, and a condition like anxiety can strike whatever kind of social animal you are.

Lots of people are shy. Shy is normal. A bit of anxiety is normal. Throw the two together, add some brain-signal error – a NO ENTRY sign on the neural highway from my brain to my mouth perhaps, though no one really knows – and you have me.”

Book Review: Keeping him Kennedy Fox

Keeping Him (Bishop Brothers, #4)

Keeping Him by Kennedy Fox

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Sep 19-22

ackson Bishop is your typical playboy.
Unpredictable, charming, and overly confident.

Growing up in Texas, the ranch life is all he’s ever known. Horses and late night partying are his lifestyles, and all the local girls know it too. Riding lessons aren’t the only things taught at the stables, and he makes sure clients never leave unsatisfied. Everyone knows Jackson’s a wild card, but not everything is as it seems. He may be a womanizer on the surface, but he’s hiding deep feelings about the one who’s had his heart since he was a teen. Unfortunately, it’s not as simple as roping her in and claiming her as his.

Kiera Young is well-known for her sassy nature and outgoing personality. Though she’s one of the best horse trainers in the area, she’s never been able to tame her best friend and the man she’s secretly loved since she was fifteen—Jackson Bishop. She’s waited years for him to confess his true feelings but as time goes on, she decides she’s done waiting. Kiera finally meets a man who promises to give her the world, and when he pops the question, she says yes—knowing they’re both ready to settle down and start a family.

Even if her heart beats for another man.

Jackson’s certain he’s lost Kiera for good and has no one to blame but himself. However, on the day of her wedding, he can’t bring himself to watch the woman he loves walk down the aisle to someone else. Kiera’s already having second thoughts and knows she can’t get married without his support. It’s not until she’s at the altar that she realizes she can’t let Jackson go and will do whatever it takes to keep him—even if it means running out on her own wedding.

Review : the final book in the bishop brothers series was freaking insane I loved it though it starts out with Kiera leaving her wedding then we go to the past to where it leads up to with the letter and Jackson . Kiera’s fiance at the time you could tell was emotionally abusive he was controling he has issues with Kiera’s relationship with Jackson. And he was hiding things from Kiera like having a child and he didn’t even care to have a relationship with said child it was just a issue to him what a fucking dick . He ends up setting a fire in the bishops barn like what a fucking psycho after he got fired cause he assaulted Jackson. on the day of Kiera’s wedding Kiera finds a letter from Jackson and I’ve got to say it made me freaking cry Jackson has never believed he is good enough for Kiera which is bullshit they are so good together so she leaves her wedding and finds Jackson and they talk and kiss and then then end up starting dating it wasn’t easy at first cause well her ex fiance is a total piece of shit . But Kiera and Jackson they are freaking adorable together I love them together this was the book I was waiting for I wanted them to be together . The ex fiance tries to kill Kiera and Jackson is there but the ex fiance ends up dying . Jackson proposes to kira and they are also pregnant with twin boys awww so cute and they end up having a girl also a little while later . I loved this series so much .

Quotes :

Jackson stands, his dick coming back to life. He reaches behind his neck and pulls off his T-shirt. I gaze down his chest and abs, and though I’ve seen him shirtless dozens of times, the sight of his chiseled muscles never gets old. Next, he unzips his jeans, and I wait with bated breath for what’s coming. “Hold back your drool,” he taunts, looking at me with a devilish grin. Jackson pulls his pants and boxers down to his ankles before quickly kicking them off. I’m certain my heart stops beating completely, and I’ve now died and gone to heaven. Jackson’s always followed through with his truth or dare to avoid this very consequence, but for some reason, tonight he’s determined to actually kill me. Torturously. I pull my lower lip into my mouth and bite down. Jackson stands naked in front of me, his dick getting hard, and he’s so close, I could reach out and touch it. Sliding my hands under my legs to keep that very thing from happening, I blink and bring my gaze back up to his mischievous face. “Ready?” His cocky smile has butterflies twirling around my stomach. He bends his arms and puts his fists into his shoulders, mimicking a pair of wings. He then runs around in circles, flapping his pretend wings as he screams ‘bwak-bwak-bwak, I’m a chicken’ over and over until I’m bent over laughing so hard, I’m crying

“Jackson…” I say, trying to gain control of my emotions. “What are you doing?” He swallows, pausing a moment before leaning back and looking into my eyes as if he’s searching for an answer. “Something I should’ve done a long fuckin’ time ago.” Without another breath, Jackson brings our mouths together in a heated and desperate kiss

You’re not mine, but I’ll always be yours. My heart will absolutely shatter watching you marry another man, but I’ve earned it. You deserve all the happiness, Kiera. Even if I’m not the reason for it.

I was never the right guy for you, but you were always the right girl for me. I will always love you, Kiera. —Jackson

“I don’t know how, after all this time, you can’t tell us apart. I’m the better lookin’ brother. It’s obvious.”

These days, I’m dodging more women in the grocery store than I’d like to admit and pretending I’m John when it doesn’t work. I’ve got his personality down to a T. Definite perks of being a twin

Colton…” I shout after jumping out of my truck and walking toward him. “You missed me already?” He flashes a cocky grin. “You wish. But we’re going out tonight, so put on your drinkin’ pants.” “My drinking pants are no pants,”

Listen, I told you last time, and I’m tellin’ you again, you ain’t my type, so put your dick away.”

Wow…” John says. “This actually doesn’t suck.” “I’m not just a pretty boy, ya know

“Sometimes I wonder how we can be twins, considering how different we are, but then at other times, I see a lot of myself in you and remember we have more in common than I realize,” John says.

You’re my best friend, Jackson Bishop. You’ll always have a place in my heart.”

I’m not the type of woman to apologize when I haven’t done anything wrong. Never have been, never will be

I see him wearing red silk boxers with black knee socks. “Dude…” I keel over laughing. “What the hell are you wearin’? You look like fuckin’ Santa Claus.”

Emily: Oh and Jackson…if you hurt my friend, I won’t think twice about sneaking into your house in the middle of the night and using a chainsaw to your balls. Jesus. I cup my junk at the imagery. Jackson: I promise to cut off my own balls if that ever happens. Emily: Good. I’ll hold ya to that.

“Oh, haven’t met him yet.” “And you won’t,” Jackson says. “He’s twenty-five and thinks he’s God’s gift to women.” I grin, shaking my head at the irony. “Sounds like someone else I know.” “No, I said he thinks he is. I actually am.

Don’t you bring me into your trouble,” John adds. “I’ve had enough of that the past thirty something years.”

Far from the Tree

Far from the Tree by Robin Benway

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

July 28-August 1

A contemporary novel about three adopted siblings who find each other at just the right moment.

Being the middle child has its ups and downs.

But for Grace, an only child who was adopted at birth, discovering that she is a middle child is a different ride altogether. After putting her own baby up for adoption, she goes looking for her biological family, including—

Maya, her loudmouthed younger bio sister, who has a lot to say about their newfound family ties. Having grown up the snarky brunette in a house full of chipper redheads, she’s quick to search for traces of herself among these not-quite-strangers. And when her adopted family’s long-buried problems begin to explode to the surface, Maya can’t help but wonder where exactly it is that she belongs.

And Joaquin, their stoic older bio brother, who has no interest in bonding over their shared biological mother. After seventeen years in the foster care system, he’s learned that there are no heroes, and secrets and fears are best kept close to the vest, where they can’t hurt anyone but him.

Review : I freaking loved this book it was heartbreaking and beautiful about family . This is about 3 siblings who each are adopted except for Joaquin because he’s afraid

July 19-23

Hotel chain mogul Sol DuMont is about to learn that some of life’s biggest surprises come in deceptively small packages—namely a petite heiress named Rain who’s hell-bent on upsetting her family’s expectations—in this first book in the all new series by Thea de Salle, set against the sultry backdrop of New Orleans.

Thirty-seven-year-old Sol DuMont is a divorcee and the owner of a mid-sized hotel chain in New Orleans. Since Hurricane Katrina, his father’s death, and the decision that he and his ex-wife Maddy are far better off friends than lovers, he’s lost interest in almost everything he held dear—parties, people, and pushing limits.

All his limits.

Then Arianna Barrington checks into his hotel.

Twenty-four-year-old Arianna “Rain” Barrington could have been society’s sweetheart. Her family is moneyed, connected press darlings, and make sweeping headlines from coast to coast for reasons both good and bad. But when her mother shoves her at Charles Harwood—the obnoxious, entitled heir of Harwood Corp—to cement a billion-dollar business merger, Rain does the only thing she can think of to escape: she creates a scandal so big Harwood doesn’t want her anymore before fleeing to New Orleans for much-needed rest and relaxation.

All she wants is jazz piano, beignets, and to sail the Mississippi. What she gets is Sol DuMont, a whirlwind affair, and a hands-on education in sex, power play, and pushing limits.

All her limits.

Review : I freaking love this book it was cute and sexy and body positive . Rain goes to new Orleans for a vacation after a scandal about her and a sex tape so her and her brother go to a hotel and there she meets sol who i love he is the owner of the hotel he’s a dom and bisexual he and rain strike up a relationship and I love them together the only problem is rains crazy ass mother who is trying to ruin sol hotel .so rain goes to Connecticut to do an interview threatening to do a tell all book about her mother her mom tells her not to and rain says she won’t if she leaves her and sol alone . She goes back to sol. I can’t wait to read the rest of the series

Quotes :

of course I’d pick the girl with an ex-marine for a chaperone

Sol almost pointed out that Vaughan couldn’t smoke the cigarette in the hotel, but he liked his face and so far this had been an amicable exchange.

Sol DuMont seemed heaven-sent. He was handsome and funny and sexy and sweet, which meant, by some cosmic joke, he probably had dead bodies stored in The Seaside’s freezer. Or maybe he sniffed socks when no one was looking. Or maybe he had a back-hair fetish.

Kitten.” “Yes?” “Are you trying to seduce me?” “Maybe? Is it working?” “Fantastically
