Book Review: the house in the Cerulean Sea TJ klune

The House in the Cerulean Sea

The House in the Cerulean Sea by T.J. Klune

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

May 10-17

A magical island. A dangerous task. A burning secret.

Linus Baker leads a quiet, solitary life. At forty, he lives in a tiny house with a devious cat and his old records. As a Case Worker at the Department in Charge Of Magical Youth, he spends his days overseeing the well-being of children in government-sanctioned orphanages.

When Linus is unexpectedly summoned by Extremely Upper Management he’s given a curious and highly classified assignment: travel to Marsyas Island Orphanage, where six dangerous children reside: a gnome, a sprite, a wyvern, an unidentifiable green blob, a were-Pomeranian, and the Antichrist. Linus must set aside his fears and determine whether or not they’re likely to bring about the end of days.

But the children aren’t the only secret the island keeps. Their caretaker is the charming and enigmatic Arthur Parnassus, who will do anything to keep his wards safe. As Arthur and Linus grow closer, long-held secrets are exposed, and Linus must make a choice: destroy a home or watch the world burn.

An enchanting story, masterfully told, The House in the Cerulean Sea is about the profound experience of discovering an unlikely family in an unexpected place—and realizing that family is yours

Review : Linus is a caseworker for magical children and one day he is sent to a special place to check it out see if it’s okay and that the children are okay. Linus meets the kids who are all special in different ways . Arthur who is in Care of the kids . Zoe who owns the island a sprite . I loved this book it was magical and sweet I loved all the kids in this book they have all been through so much prejudice. The people on the land hate the kids and what they are they think they are monsters . On the day they all visit on land there are more people who accept the kids that hate them . We meet Helen who is the mayor . Linus time is almost over . The kids don’t want him to leave and he doesn’t want to either but he has to go back to his job his home least that’s what he tells himself. We find out Arthur is a Phoenix . The people on the land were trying to get to the orphanage they want the children gone what assholes . There needed to be change Linus ends up going back but he quits and steals fials for other magical kids to hopefully help them and he goes back to his real home with the kids and Arthur . Arthur and Linus are going to adopt the kids and to be married so cute .

Quotes : We should always make time for the things we like. If we don’t, we might forget how to be happy.”

Hate is loud, but I think you’ll learn it’s because it’s only a few people shouting, desperate to be heard. You might not ever be able to change their minds, but so long as your remember you’re not alone, you will overcome.”

A home isn’t always the house we live in. It’s also the people we choose to surround ourselves with. You may not live on the island, but you can’t tell me it’s not your home. Your bubble, Mr. Baker. It’s been popped. Why would you allow it to grow around you again?”

When something is broken, you can put it back together. It may not fit quite the same, or work like it did once before, but that doesn’t mean it’s no longer useful.”

People suck, but sometimes, they should just drown in their own suckage without our help.

I’m afraid I don’t have magic.”
“You do, Mr. Baker. Arthur told me

Your voice is a weapon. Never forget that.”

Change often starts with the smallest of whispers. Like-minded people building it up to a roar.”

Zoe choked on a laugh. “Come on. Let’s leave the dumb adults to it. We absolutely will go inside and start dinner and not watch them through the windows.”
“Ooh,” Talia said. “I get it. Yes, let’s go watch—I mean, make dinner.”

Book Review: Roommate Sarina Bowen

Roommate

Roommate by Sarina Bowen

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

March 1-13
Wanted: One roommate to share a 3-bedroom house, split the rent, and ideally not be the guy I can’t stop thinking about.
I’m a man with too many secrets, so the last thing I need is a new roommate with a sexy smile and blue eyes that see right through me. Eight years ago, Roderick left town after high school. We’re not friends. I owe him nothing. But back then, I let one of my secrets slip, and he’s the only one who noticed.
Part of me knows I should run far, far away. But the other part wants him to come upstairs and spend the night. But if I let him in, I could lose everything.

Seeking: A room to rent in town. I’m tidy, have no pets, and I will feed you homemade bread.
I should probably add: Gay AF, and has no filter. It’s no wonder my new landlord is so wary of me.
A smarter man would ignore those hot glances from Kieran Shipley. The broody lumberjack wants more from me than another homemade pretzel, but if I push my luck, I’ll end up back on the street.
Too bad I’ve never been smart with my heart …

Review: This was a really funny and cute romance this is about Roderick and Kireran see when Kireran was in high school Kireran witnessed Roderick giving another guy oral pleasure and he kept going back to watch. Years later Roderick is back in town after a really bad breakup he ends up getting a job at the busy bean but he is still stuck sleeping in his car cause he’s broke. Kireran ends up moving out of his parent’s place he needs his own space and him and his father don’t really get along for reasons. Kieran sees Roderick sleeping in the car and asks him to move in with him . Roderick and him start to get a long and he gives Kireran cooking lessons and then they ended up kissing and then hooking up and it turned to be more but Kireran isn’t ready to come out and his cousin ends up seeing them in bed together. Roderick doesn’t want to go back in the closet so he needs time away . Kireran gets his scholarship to art school . Kieran ends up quitting his job cause his bosses son was a tool and called him a slur . Kireran dad gets in a accident and he’s in the hospital and it comes out that Kieran and his dad aren’t blood related his mom had an affair with a priest and it also comes out that Kieran and Roderick are together. I loved this book had some spice and made me laugh.

Quotes:I’d be a good roommate. Neat freak will make you sourdough waffles once a week on his day off. Gay AF. Quiet because he has no friends.

He bends down, and I absolutely do not check out his ass as he retrieves the chalk off the floor.

This had better be Kieran’s house. Either that, or I’m about to be arrested for trespassing. And I don’t have bail money.” I hear what may possibly be a distant snort of laughter

Still, I can’t stop wondering how good it would feel to be grabbed up in those strong arms and hugged. Or, say, pinned to the bed while he fucks me. I’m not picky.

How did you, uh, know.” He clears his throat, and his eyes are tentative. “Know?” I feel so swimmy and bright that it takes a moment to understand what he’s asking. “Oh, that I’m queer as fuck? I always knew. Sorry.” I can hear myself babbling. “But everybody’s different. I know some dudes who were thirty-five and married before they figured out how much they like cock.”

No fucking way. I can’t use an app. Shit. I can’t even make barista conversation with strangers. People chat on that app, right? And if I actually saw someone interesting on there, they’d want to talk.” He shudders. I burst out laughing. “Oh the horrors! So you aren’t afraid to suck a dick, but the small talk might kill you?” “Maybe,” he grumbles

Let’s eat pulled pork. I’m drunk, and if we stand here any longer I’m just going to stare at you while I picture you naked.” His laughter sounds uncomfortable. “All right. Dinner

“I have a Christmas present for you to unwrap.” “Is it in your pants?” He nudges his ass against my crotch, and my body does not fail to take the hint. “I love opening presents,” he teases. “No, it’s under the tree.”

“I can’t believe the first guy you’ve ever dated happens to be named Rod,” Griffin says. “I suppose it could be worse. Dicky, maybe. Or Hammer.”

With his intrepid sister and the Veep’s genius granddaughter, they’re the White House Trio, a beautiful millennial marketing strategy for his mother, President Ellen Claremont. International socialite duties do have downsides—namely, when photos of a confrontation with his longtime nemesis Prince Henry at a royal wedding leak to the tabloids and threaten American/British relations. The plan for damage control: staging a fake friendship between the First Son and the Prince.

As President Claremont kicks off her reelection bid, Alex finds himself hurtling into a secret relationship with Henry that could derail the campaign and upend two nations. What is worth the sacrifice? How do you do all the good you can do? And, most importantly, how will history remember you

Review : I absolutely loved this book I love all the characters but I love Alex and Henry. Alex is the first son of a woman president and they are going to a royal wedding and Alex kinda hates the prince Henry but he gets drunk and they end up falling on a very expensive cake so to do damage control they have to pretend to be best friends . Then he’ll breaks loose Alex and Henry emails leak the man Richards going against Alex mom caused a sex scandle to happen so he could win but it didn’t work his mom won again .

Quotes : Thinking about history makes me wonder how I’ll fit into it one day, I guess. And you too. I kinda wish people still wrote like that. History, huh? Bet we could make some.”

Should I tell you that when we’re apart, your body comes back to me in dreams? That when I sleep, I see you, the dip of your waist, the freckle above your hip, and when I wake up in the morning, it feels like I’ve just been with you, the phantom touch of your hand on the back of my neck fresh and not imagined? That I can feel your skin against mine, and it makes every bone in my body ache? That, for a few moments, I can hold my breath and be back there with you, in a dream, in a thousand rooms, nowhere at all?”

Alex snatches a shirt and boxers at random from the floor, shoves them at Henry’s chest, and points him towards the closet. “Get in there.”

“Quite,” he observes.

“Yes, we can unpack the ironic symbolism later. GO.”

“I am the First Son of the United States, and I’m bisexual. History will remember us.”

Oh my God, I thought you were getting into international relations or something.”
“I mean, technically—”
“If you finish that sentence, I’m gonna spend tonight in jail.”

I don’t know who YOU think you’re kidding you Hufflepuff-ass bitch”

Hi,” he says, when he reaches Henry’s eye level. “Hello,” Henry says back. “I’m gonna take your pants off now,” Alex tells him. “Yes, good, carry on.”

Handsome Death by Sara Dobie Bauer

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

April 11-14

I’m not hunting him; I’m protecting him.
At least, that’s what I tell myself.
In New York City, a beautiful creature like Tristan Clement should not be walking the streets alone, and I’m the perfect vampire to watch his back.
But what if keeping him safe isn’t enough anymore? What if I want to touch? And taste?
I need him. But I’ve never needed anyone.

—————

In a world where paranormal creatures live amongst us and must follow certain laws, living life as a dangerous loner works for vampire Ethan. Inhabiting his gleaming apartment, wearing his designer suits, jetting around the world as a fanged killer-for-hire, Ethan does it all alone.

That is, until he literally runs into Tristan. Tristan, who is clearly trouble wrapped in skinny jeans and an oversized sweater. Tristan, with his shock of angelic blond curls. Tristan, who plays piano more beautifully than the old masters– and Ethan would know; he saw Beethoven.

Tristan is gorgeous, a little sassy, and irresistible. Also, Ethan is horrified to note, Tristan has no idea how incredibly tempting he is to things that go bump in the night.

Overcome by the urge to keep Tristan safe, Ethan begins to… well, stalk is such a strong word. What starts as an obsession quickly becomes something more, something that Ethan needs. And to his surprise, Tristan seems to need him, too…

This darkly romantic tale delivers steamy passion and a happily ever after. Be advised that Handsome Death includes explicit m/m content, stalking, mentions of past abuse, and graphic violence.

Book Review: The legend of the Golden Raven k. Ancrum

The Legend of the Golden Raven (The Wicker King #1.5)

The Legend of the Golden Raven by K. Ancrum

My rating: 3 of 5 stars

April 2-3
K. Ancrum’s The Legend of the Golden Raven novella, part fairy tale and part gritty reality, follows a boy as he descends into madness.

August and Jack weren’t meant to be friends. One is a misfit with a pyro streak and the other a golden boy on the rugby team. But as their relationship intensifies, Jack slowly begins to lose his mind—taking readers on an intimate journey into the fantasy kingdom creeping into the edges of his world.

As the novella moves back and forth between a medieval legend and our own, contemporary world, nothing is as it seems. The boys alienate everyone around them as they struggle with their sanity and as Jack’s quest to fulfill a dark prophecy begins to consume them both . . .

Devour this companion novella to The Wicker King.

Review : this novella was very interesting it was from Jack’s POV and we got to see what he saw and how he loves August and his fantasy world I enjoyed reading it .

Quotes :
You’re the love of my life, you know,” he said bravely.

The Wicker King

The Wicker King by K. Ancrum

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

March 22-April 2

Jack once saved August’s life . . . now can August save him?

August is a misfit with a pyro streak and Jack is a golden boy on the varsity rugby team–but their intense friendship goes way back. Jack begins to see increasingly vivid hallucinations that take the form of an elaborate fantasy kingdom creeping into the edges of the real world. With their parents’ unreliable behavior, August decides to help Jack the way he always has–on his own. He accepts the visions as reality, even when Jack leads them on a quest to fulfill a dark prophecy.

August and Jack alienate everyone around them as they struggle with their sanity, free falling into the surreal fantasy world that feels made for them. In the end, each one must choose his own truth.

Written in vivid micro-fiction with a stream-of-consciousness feel and multimedia elements, K. Ancrum’s The Wicker King touches on themes of mental health and explores a codependent relationship fraught with tension, madness and love.

Review : this book was freaking crazy and I loved it I didn’t think I would but I did the relationship between the boys is definitely very toxic I will say . This book is very interesting cause if you read the physical book the pages start out light and then go to black very cool. This book is about Jack and August . Jack sees a world August cant and August will always fallow Jack . Jack is seeing a fantasy world where he is the wicker king and they need to get jack to stop seeing visions and August knows he should take jack somewhere to get help but then they burn down a old toy factory and get sent to a mental hospital Jack had a tumor and he finally stopped seeing visions Jack and August kissed .
Quotes

I never said I didn’t feel the same,” Jack said harshly. “Just because I don’t see the kingdom doesn’t mean it doesn’t still exist,” Jack said furiously. “As long as one of us remembers it, it still counts. We decide the end of the game, not them. Not anyone else. You’re so stupid, August. You’re so stupid and I love you so much.”
Jack kissed him so carefully that August thought he would fall to pieces. Kissed him with the weight of knowing the price of risk. Then he gazed back at August like his heart was already breaking.

It was the same face that Jack had made on the roof, in the middle of the night, when they rolled in the grass, when he sat back with August’s blood and ink on his hands, when his face was lit orange with flames, when he’d opened the door to Rina’s room, when he stared across the gym at the homecoming dance, when he pulled him from the river and breathed him back to life.

Jack had been waiting. He’d been trying. He was scared. There were tears in his eyes and it took August’s breath away.”
