Book Review: the assassin and the healer Sarah J. Maas

The Assassin and the Healer (Throne of Glass, #0.2)The Assassin and the Healer by Sarah J. Maas
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

August 27-30

Meet the Assassin: beautiful, defiant, destined for greatness. Celaena Sardothien has challenged her master. Now she must pay the price. Her journey to the Red Desert will be an arduous one, but it may change the fate of her cursed world forever..

Review- Celena meets a healer Irvine after being punished after the pirate fiasco and she has no idea what’s happened to Sam but at this inn she meets Irvine who is a healer I loved this story it was more interesting hearing about the healer and Irvine’s mother was killed and saved Irvine . Ivrine was attacked and Celena saved her and then taught her how to fight which she ends up having to use when one of the guys comes back but she faught well . Celena left Irvine money so she could go anywhere this was an interesting story I enjoyed it .And of course Celena was a bassass fighting all those men .

Quotes-
“The girl wore her scars the way some women wore their finest jewelry.”

Let me give you a bit of advice.’ the girl said bitterly, ‘from one working girl to another; life isn’t easy, no matter where you are. You’ll make choices you think are right and then suffer for them.’ Those remarkable eyes flickered. ‘So if you’re going to be miserable, you might as well go to Antica and be miserable in the shadow of the Torre Cesme.”

Book Review: the assassin and the pirate lord sarah j . Maas

The Assassin and the Pirate Lord (Throne of Glass, #0.1)The Assassin and the Pirate Lord by Sarah J. Maas
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Summary- On a remote island in a tropical sea, Celaena Sardothien, feared assassin, has come for retribution. She’s been sent by the Assassin’s Guild to collect on a debt they are owed by the Lord of the Pirates. But when Celaena learns that the agreed payment is not in money, but in slaves, her mission suddenly changes—and she will risk everything to right the wrong she’s been sent to bring about.

Review- I haven’t read throne of glass but I’m so excited to after reading this Celaena is a badass . Celaena and Sam have to collect slaves from a pirate which Celaena is against and plans to free them . Sam and her don’t get along very well but they work together to free the slaves . They trick Rolf but it doesn’t work out well he catches them but Sam runs and Celana knocks him out and revels herself to be a sixteen year old girl which shocks the pirate. But the Slaves get away but is Sam safe I wasn’t to sure but she makes Rolf sign this paper saying he won’t allow slaves she finds sam they hug great ending I loved this story .

Quotes-
He couldn’t be dead. Not from the dagger, or those dozen pirates, or from the catapult. No, Sam couldn’t be so stupid that he’d get himself killed. She’d… she’d… Well she’d kill him if he was dead.”

She lifted her chin. “I’ve been shouting for you.”
Sam shrugged, sauntering over to her. “I figured you could wait a few minutes, given that I saved the day and all.” His brows rose high on his ash-covered face.
“Some hero.” She gestured to the ruin of the tower around them. “I’ve never seen such sloppy work”

Sam smiled, his brown eyes turning golden in the dawn. It was such a Sam look, the twinkle of mischief, the hint of exasperation, the kindness that would always, always make him a better person than she was.”

Book Review: We should hang out sometime Embarrassingly , a true story by Josh Sundquist

We Should Hang Out Sometime: Embarrassingly, a True StoryWe Should Hang Out Sometime: Embarrassingly, a True Story by Josh Sundquist
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

June 10-14

A bright, poignant, and deeply funny autobiographical account of coming of age as an amputee cancer survivor, from Josh Sundquist: Paralympic ski racer, YouTube star, and motivational speaker.

Josh Sundquist only ever had one girlfriend.
For twenty-three hours.
In eighth grade.

Why was Josh still single? To find out, he tracked down the girls he had tried to date and asked them straight up: What went wrong?

The results of Josh’s semiscientific, wholly hilarious investigation are captured here. From a disastrous Putt-Putt date involving a backward prosthetic foot, to his introduction to CFD (Close Fast Dancing), to a misguided “grand gesture” at a Miss America pageant, this story is about looking for love–or at least a girlfriend–in all the wrong places.

Review- I really loved this book I thought it was really funny it made me laugh many times . I sometimes read nonfiction but what I loved about this it just felt like a story not about someone’s life I did love the parts with graphs and when he would go back and talk to the girls of the failed relationships. I read this with audiobook so it was the experience even more better everyone should read it . And I love the line we should hang out sometime .And I could understand what Josh was going through see I have a learning difference and no way am I comparing loosing a limb to a learning difference it’s just I understand how people act when they learn that one thing about you.

Favorite Quotes-
Sometimes the best moments are the spontaneous ones you don’t plan for.

Too late , already worried .
That’s because you haven’t heard about my boots yet .
um , what i’ve got a pair of steel-toed boots under my bunk bed in my door , explained kyle . The next time you see Lily , if you don’t have have a DTR , I am going to put on those boots and I am going to kick you as hard as I possibly can in your balls.
excuse me ?
You heard me .
You’re serious ?
in your balls.
Steel ?
Yes , it’s an iron alloy. I’m sure you’ve heard of it.
Are you joking ?
Do I look like I’m joking ?
He doesn’t look like he joking , interjected Brad .
Did I mention I was the starting forward of my high school soccer team ? Asked Kyle . I’ve got a mean left foot .
The next time I see her ?
or else .
Dude…. I said , incredulous
Steel . Your balls . Think about .
I sighed , surrendering . Okay , you leave me no other
choice . Next time I see her it is .
You do that , my boots stay under my bed .
Thanks , I guess ?
What else are friends for ?

But when you’re faced with a significantly life- altering negative situation you can’t control , you grasp at the little things you can control . The little opportunities where you can make choices for yourself.

Book Review: the last time we say goodbye Cynthia Hand

The Last Time We Say GoodbyeThe Last Time We Say Goodbye by Cynthia Hand
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

May 1- June 4

There’s death all around us.
We just don’t pay attention.
Until we do.

The last time Lex was happy, it was before. When she had a family that was whole. A boyfriend she loved. Friends who didn’t look at her like she might break down at any moment.

Now she’s just the girl whose brother killed himself. And it feels like that’s all she’ll ever be.

As Lex starts to put her life back together, she tries to block out what happened the night Tyler died. But there’s a secret she hasn’t told anyone-a text Tyler sent, that could have changed everything.

Lex’s brother is gone. But Lex is about to discover that a ghost doesn’t have to be real to keep you from moving on.

Review- This book was a beautiful take on a girl who has to deal with the aftermath of her brothers suicide Lex use to be happy she use to have a great boyfriend but after Ty died she had a hole in her chest she felt guilty her mom can’t take Ty being dead she keeps telling Lex her life is over and then Ty appears to Lex in her dreams and kind of like a ghost . When Lex finds a letter from Ty to his ex girlfriend Ashley Lex doesn’t know what to do she starts talking to Ty’s friend Damien who I knew right away would be into her before Steven and Lex started dating she revived a paper flower which then we find out was from Damien so sweet but she rejects him and she worries he is going to do something to himself cause he wrote this poem and before Patrick another one of ty’s friend killed himself Lex keeps seeing ty she ends up yelling at him once but in the end she gives Steven her journal to show him she got into MIT WOW and she finally got to say goodbye to Ty great book loved it .
Quotes –
“There’s death all around us. Everywhere we look. 1.8 people kill themselves every second. We just don’t pay attention. Until we do.”

This is going to sound trite, I suppose, but you never know when it’s going to be the last time. That you hug someone. That you kiss. That you say goodbye

People kept saying, ‘It’s going to be all right.’ That’s what they told me, over and over and over, like Don’t you worry, little girl, it will all be okay, because there’s got to be some bullshit overall rule of the universe that no matter what happens, no matter how bad it gets, everything will be all right in the end.”

“Yeah,” I murmur.

“And you know what I kept thinking? I kept thinking, That is a fucking lie. It is not going to be all right. It will never be all right, ever, ever again. So stop fucking lying to me.”

“Forgiveness is tricky, Alexis, because in the end it’s more about you than it is about the person who’s being forgiven.”

Summary-
A lyrical novel about family and friendship from critically acclaimed author Benjamin Alire Sáenz.

Aristotle is an angry teen with a brother in prison. Dante is a know-it-all who has an unusual way of looking at the world. When the two meet at the swimming pool, they seem to have nothing in common. But as the loners start spending time together, they discover that they share a special friendship—the kind that changes lives and lasts a lifetime. And it is through this friendship that Ari and Dante will learn the most important truths about themselves and the kind of people they want to be

This review contains spoilers !

Review- This book was amazing I loved it , it had so many messages in this this book it did have a perks of being a wallflower feel . So this is a book about Ari he’s a very angry character so one summer when he goes to the pool he meets Dante who offers to teach him how to swim I loved these two characters so Ari and Dante start hanging out these two boys are very different but I loved them so much I also loved the families of these two boys . Ari doesn’t understand his father cause he really doesn’t talk he wants to get to know him but doesn’t know how his brother is in prison and no one will talk about it Dante loves drawing and he’s a very caring person and then the accident holy crap Ari saves Dante from getting hit by a car I mean who does that Ari’s legs get run over and he doesn’t want to talk about the accident . Dante gives Ari his sketchpad I thought that was sweet but Ari doesn’t want to look at it I never understood that weird Dante is going to be moving away for 9 months cause his dad got this job offer Dante sends Ari this letters and in one of them he tells Ari he’s gay and he doesn’t know how to tell his dad cause he doesn’t want to disappoint him . When Dante comes back Dante gets beat up for kissing a boy what a couple of douchebags and then Ari finds the guy and punches him . Dante kisses Ari as an experiment Ari says it doesn’t work for him total lies I mean you don’t kiss guys back your not into or in general if your not gay . When his dad confronts Ari and says in in love with Dante Ari starts crying cause he doesn’t want to admit it but we all know he is so after bowling one night he and dante go look at the stars and Dante doesn’t want to be friends with Ari cause it’s to hard cause he’s in love with him but then Ari kisses Dante I was crying at this point I loved this book so much I will be reading this book over and over again .

Quotes.
I took Dante’s hand and held it.
How could I have ever been ashamed of loving Dante Quintana ?

From the minute I’d met Dante , I had fallen in love with him . I just didn’t let myself know it , think it feel it . My father was right . And it was truth what my mother says . We all fight our own private wars.

My name’s Dante , he said. that made me laugh harder . sorry I said
it’s okay . people laugh at my name ,
No, no I said . see, it’s just that my name’s Aristotle .

there are worse things in the world than a boy who likes to kiss other boys .

Book Review: Hera the Goddess and her glory George O’Connor

Hera: The Goddess and Her Glory (Olympians, #3)

Hera: The Goddess and Her Glory by George O’Connor
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Hera: The Goddess and her Glory by George O’ConnorMy rating: 4 of 5 starsThe story of Hera, Queen of the Gods, and the heroes who won her favor.Volume 3 of Olympians, Hera: The Goddess and Her Glory, introduces readers to the Queen of the Gods and Goddesses in the Pantheon. This volume tells the tales of the many heroes who sought and won Hera’s patronage, most notably Hercules. In Olympians, O’Connor draws from primary documents to reconstruct and retell classic Greek myths. But these stories aren’t sedate, scholarly works. They’re action-packed, fast-paced, high-drama adventures with monsters, romance, and not a few huge explosions. O’Connor’s vibrant, kinetic art brings ancient tales to undeniable life, in a perfect fusion of super-hero aesthetics and ancient Greek mythology. March 15-16

Review- This one was a really good one Hera isn’t my favorite goddess she is a little crazy but I did like the story of Hercules it was an interesting story I’m going to pick up the next two at the library .

Book review Zeus by george o’connor March 14-15Summary- George O’Connor is a Greek mythology buff and a classic superhero comics fan, and he’s out to remind us how much our pantheon of superheroes (Superman, Batman, the X-Men, etc) owes to mankind’s ORIGINAL superheroes: the Greek pantheon. In OLYMPIANS, O’Connor draws from primary documents to reconstruct and retell classic Greek myths. But these stories aren’t sedate, scholarly works. Mary left years ago Reave use to pick on Mary she was bigger back then he called her big easy what piece of garbage what I liked about this book was the revenge even though in the end it kind of didn’t work out very well . Rennie she’s kind of a bitch on the last night of summer they met these guys on the beach and they end up going to these guys house for a party after they threw a party for Alex and Lila lost her virginity to one of those guys and Rennie let one of the guys she is a terrible friend . We Were LiarsWe Were Liars by E. Lockhart

January 24- 28

Summary – A beautiful and distinguished family.
A private island.
A brilliant, damaged girl; a passionate, political boy.

A revolution. An accident. A secret.
Lies upon lies.
True love.
The truth.

We Were Liars is a modern, sophisticated suspense novel from National Book Award finalist and Printz Award honoree E. Lockhart.
Read it.
And if anyone asks you how it ends, just LIE.

Review – Let me start out by saying this book was amazing the writing was poetic I loved this book . So I went in knowing this book was going to shock me and oh it did .

Cadence Joghney johnny Miren and gat are the liars . Every summer they spend it at st.clair home they have fun they spend together. candence falls in love with gat but something happends something big at summer 15 that no one will tell cadence . And she’s trying to figure it out what happened that summer when she comes back for summer 17 the st. claire house has been redone the gradfather is loosing this brain and cadence has these migrains that hurt her head and sometimes she wants to die they hurt so bad . Now I didn’t guess what the big thing was I thought someone hurt her or something but memories start coming back to her . The aunts fight over things in the house cadence gives away allot of her stuff. She wants to start over. Some things I didn’t like I really didn’t like most of this family execpt for the liars . The grandfather was power hungry and trying to control everything he was a jerk to gat cause he was another color ,what the heck and cadence’s mother was trying to keep gat and cadence away from each other . the grandfather even threatened his daughter carrie that if he married ed she would be cut off that’s kind of sick . when they decide to do this big thing to set fire to the place to keep people in the family from fighting I thought it was kind of nuts . In the end the dogs died in the fire I cried at that they started . It was bad and then cadence is crying and then she remembers the big thing THEY DIED all execpt from her . Now were they ghost or hallucinations not really sure but I was shocked but they were there for her when she needed them most I cried at the end this book was amazing .

Book Review: in real life Cory doctorow

In Real LifeIn Real Life by Cory Doctorow
My rating: 3 of 5 stars

November 16-16

Summary – Anda loves Coarsegold Online, the massively-multiplayer role playing game that she spends most of her free time on. It’s a place where she can be a leader, a fighter, a hero. It’s a place where she can meet people from all over the world, and make friends. Gaming is, for Anda, entirely a good thing.

But things become a lot more complicated when Anda befriends a gold farmer – a poor Chinese kid whose avatar in the game illegally collects valuable objects and then sells them to players from developed countries with money to burn. This behavior is strictly against the rules in Coarsegold, but Anda soon comes to realize that questions of right and wrong are a lot less straightforward when a real person’s real livelihood is at stake.

From acclaimed teen author and digerati bigwig Cory Doctorow and rising star cartoonist Jen Wang, In Real Life is a sensitive, thoughtful look at adolescence, gaming, poverty, and culture-clash.

Review- Anda has started playing Coursegold it’s an online game is getting payed to kill this gold farmers until she meets a Chinese kid who is in trouble in real life what I loved about this story was the art I love the drawings and that Anda is not a typical girl this was a very enjoyable story about gaming and friendship until she gets banned from the game for getting money which is against the rules she helps out the kid and gets back into the game and officially joins the guild I highly suggest you read this graphic novel
