Book review : Empire of storms Sarah j . Maas

Empire of Storms (Throne of Glass, #5)Empire of Storms by Sarah J. Maas
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

June 1-October 1

The long path to the throne has only just begun for Aelin Galathynius as war looms on the horizon. Loyalties have been broken and bought, friends have been lost and gained, and those who possess magic find themselves at odds with those who don’t.

With her heart sworn to the warrior-prince by her side, and her fealty pledged to the people she is determined to save, Aelin will delve into the depths of her power to protect those she loves. But as monsters emerge from the horrors of the past, and dark forces become poised to claim her world, the only chance for salvation will lie in a desperate quest that may mark the end of everything Aelin holds dear.

In this breathtaking fifth installment of the New York Times bestselling Throne of Glass series, Aelin will have to choose what—and who—to sacrifice if she’s to keep the world of Erilea from breaking apart.

Review:Review : Another great book in this series I loved this one it was action packed and so crazy till the very  end . Aelin and her court are looking for ways to stop erawan . I loved the different POV in this book.  I loved the slow burn with Aedion and lysandra  . And of course I love Rowan and Aelin that scene on the beach wow . And mannon and Dorian also wow . Mannon saved Dorian again and put her 13 at risk and we find out that mannon is queen of the crockans.  Some familiar faces from assassins blade books Rolphe and  Ansel  . Ansel got word from aelin  and we find out she tried to get her out of endovier. The eye of ellena we find out is a portal to the past and Mannon and aelin need to use it . I also loved Lorcan and Elide they were and interesting together as they traveled and they found aelin  . The two other men  Gavriel and fenrys were sent to kill Lorcan . Gavriel finally meets his son Aedian and well Aedian is pissed as he has a right to be . Maeve shows up
Elena tells Aelin the plan and what she needs to do she is sent right to Maeve . Maeve took Elide . Maeve takes Aelin . We find our Rowan and Aelin are mates. Aelin slipped Mannon the two keys . Rowan shows up looking for Aelin they got married . Lysandra plans to shift into Aelin to pretend to be her cause no one can know she’s been taken . Rowan plans on finding Aelin . I loved this book

Quotes : “It is not such a hard thing, is it – to die for your friends.”

You will find, Rolfe, that one does not deal with Celaena Sardothien. One survives her”

Aelin Galathynius had raised an army not just to challenge Morath, but to rattle the stars.”

Where is Aelin.
Where is my wife?”

And tell Rowan,” Aelin said, fighting her own sob, “that I’m sorry I lied. But tell him it was all borrowed time anyway. Even before today, I knew it was all just borrowed time, but I still wish we’d had more of it.” She fought past her trembling mouth. “Tell him he has to fight. He must save Terrasen, and remember the vows he made to me. And tell him . . . tell him thank you—for walking that dark path with me back to the light.”

“I’ll make one more promise,” she said, folding her bloodied hand into a fist as she lowered it before them. Darrow tensed.
Her blood dripped onto the sacred soil of Terrasen, and her smile turned lethal. Even Aedion held his breath beside her.
Aelin said, “I promise you that no matter how far I go, no matter the cost, when you call for my aid, I will come. I promise you on my blood, on my family’s name, that I will not turn my back on Terrasen as you have turned your back on me. I promise you, Darrow, that when the day comes and you crawl for my help, I will put my kingdom before my pride and not kill you for this. I think the true punishment will be seeing me on the throne for the rest of your miserable life.”

I am going to find the Crochans. And I am going to raise an army with them. For Aelin Galathynius. And her people. And for ours

Book Review: Glass sword Victoria aveyard

Glass Sword (Red Queen, #2)

Glass Sword by Victoria Aveyard

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

September 2-22

If there’s one thing Mare Barrow knows, it’s that she’s different.

Mare’s blood is red – the colour of common folk – but her Silver ability, the power to control lightning, has turned her into a weapon that the royal court tries to control.

The crown calls her an impossibility, a fake, but as she makes her escape from the prince and friend who betrayed her, Mare uncovers something startling: she is not the only one of her kind.

Pursued by the Silver king, Mare sets out to find and recruit other Red and Silver fighters to join in the struggle against her oppressors.

But Mare finds herself on a deadly path, at risk of becoming exactly the kind of monster she is trying to defeat. Will she shatter under the weight of the lives that are the cost of rebellion? Or have treachery and betrayal hardened her forever?

Review : The sequel was crazy so much happened and I couldn’t stop reading. Mare has decided to build an army with newbloods but first she has to find them before maven does. But before their on the island with this colonel who is Farley father . Shade is alive he has powers like Mare he calls it jumping .The colonel traps cal and then Mare but they escape and they are gonna find these newbloods. I was kinda annoyed with Mare at some parts in this book cause she was mad at Cal for not wanting to kill all silvers there are good silvers Juilian and Sara who are still prisoners. And there are bad reds also there isn’t one is better than another . But it was cool to see the different ability the different newbloods had . They are plan to go to the palace and break the newbloods out but Shade dies and it’s so sad cause I liked him with Farley. They get Julian and Sara the queen is dead . They go back to the island. But Mare has to the choke but they run into maven and she bargains herself to him .
Quotes :
No one is born evil, just like no one is born alone. They become that way, through choice and circumstance.”

“If I am a sword, I am a sword made of glass, and I feel myself beginning to shatter.”

Anyone, anything, can betray anyone. Even your own heart.”

Book review : A thousand boy kisses Tillie Cole

A Thousand Boy KissesA Thousand Boy Kisses by Tillie Cole
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

June 11-July 28

One kiss lasts a moment.
But a thousand kisses can last a lifetime.

One boy.
One girl.
A bond that is forged in an instant and cherished for a decade.
A bond that neither time nor distance can break.
A bond that will last forever.
Or so they believe.

When seventeen-year-old Rune Kristiansen returns from his native Norway to the sleepy town of Blossom Grove, Georgia, where he befriended Poppy Litchfield as a child, he has just one thing on his mind. Why did the girl who was one half of his soul, who promised to wait faithfully for his return, cut him off without a word of explanation?

Rune’s heart was broken two years ago when Poppy fell silent. When he discovers the truth, he finds that the greatest heartache is yet to come.

Book review: This book broke me it was beautiful this love story was so sweet . This is about poppy and Rune .poppy and Rune meet as kids when Rune moves next door and as time goes on they begin to fall in love poppy made a promise to her grandmother to have 1,000 boy kisses and Rune has helped with that . They love each other so deeply. But Rune has to move back to Oslo and then him and poppy don’t talk for awhile until he moves back . You see poppy is dying but Rune is determined to make her time special. And he does he takes her to NYC . She becomes weaker and has days left they see the cherry blossoms and get to go to prom . She says goodbye and passes away. Rune got accepted into college in a photography program. The epiloge was sweet it was explained that Rune passed on and was to stay with poppy .

Quotes : When you find the boy that will be your forever always, every time you get an extra-special kiss from him, take out a heart. Write down where you were when you were kissed. Then when you’re a mamaw too, your grandbaby—your best buddy—can hear all about them, just like I’ve told you all about mine.

It was the third moment that defined my life. The night I found out I would lose the girl I loved. Knowing our moments together were numbered, I held on to her tighter, refusing to let go. She fell asleep doing exactly the same… …a powerful echo of who we used to be.

A reminder that we were Poppy and Rune. Somewhere under all the hurt and pain, under all the new layers we’d acquired, we were still here. In love. Two halves of one heart. And I didn’t care what anyone said about it.

I now realized why I had loved her so hard from being so young—so I had this time with her. Poppy believed her spirit always knew she’d die young. I was starting to

Why? Why do I have to lose you?” He shook his head and his face contorted in pain. “Because I can’t, Poppymin. I can’t watch you leave. I can’t bear the thought of not having you like this for the rest of our lives.”

I’ll see you in your dreams.” Trying to hold back my emotions, I rasped back, “I’ll see you in my dreams.” Poppy sighed, a peaceful smile gracing her face. Then Poppy closed her eyes, tilting her chin up for her final kiss, her hand squeezing mine.

Being loved by you was the biggest accomplishment of my life. I didn’t have long and I had nowhere near enough time to be with you how I wanted. But in those years, in my final months, I knew what real love was.

Book Review: the house in the Cerulean Sea TJ klune

The House in the Cerulean Sea

The House in the Cerulean Sea by T.J. Klune

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

May 10-17

A magical island. A dangerous task. A burning secret.

Linus Baker leads a quiet, solitary life. At forty, he lives in a tiny house with a devious cat and his old records. As a Case Worker at the Department in Charge Of Magical Youth, he spends his days overseeing the well-being of children in government-sanctioned orphanages.

When Linus is unexpectedly summoned by Extremely Upper Management he’s given a curious and highly classified assignment: travel to Marsyas Island Orphanage, where six dangerous children reside: a gnome, a sprite, a wyvern, an unidentifiable green blob, a were-Pomeranian, and the Antichrist. Linus must set aside his fears and determine whether or not they’re likely to bring about the end of days.

But the children aren’t the only secret the island keeps. Their caretaker is the charming and enigmatic Arthur Parnassus, who will do anything to keep his wards safe. As Arthur and Linus grow closer, long-held secrets are exposed, and Linus must make a choice: destroy a home or watch the world burn.

An enchanting story, masterfully told, The House in the Cerulean Sea is about the profound experience of discovering an unlikely family in an unexpected place—and realizing that family is yours

Review : Linus is a caseworker for magical children and one day he is sent to a special place to check it out see if it’s okay and that the children are okay. Linus meets the kids who are all special in different ways . Arthur who is in Care of the kids . Zoe who owns the island a sprite . I loved this book it was magical and sweet I loved all the kids in this book they have all been through so much prejudice. The people on the land hate the kids and what they are they think they are monsters . On the day they all visit on land there are more people who accept the kids that hate them . We meet Helen who is the mayor . Linus time is almost over . The kids don’t want him to leave and he doesn’t want to either but he has to go back to his job his home least that’s what he tells himself. We find out Arthur is a Phoenix . The people on the land were trying to get to the orphanage they want the children gone what assholes . There needed to be change Linus ends up going back but he quits and steals fials for other magical kids to hopefully help them and he goes back to his real home with the kids and Arthur . Arthur and Linus are going to adopt the kids and to be married so cute .

Quotes : We should always make time for the things we like. If we don’t, we might forget how to be happy.”

Hate is loud, but I think you’ll learn it’s because it’s only a few people shouting, desperate to be heard. You might not ever be able to change their minds, but so long as your remember you’re not alone, you will overcome.”

A home isn’t always the house we live in. It’s also the people we choose to surround ourselves with. You may not live on the island, but you can’t tell me it’s not your home. Your bubble, Mr. Baker. It’s been popped. Why would you allow it to grow around you again?”

When something is broken, you can put it back together. It may not fit quite the same, or work like it did once before, but that doesn’t mean it’s no longer useful.”

People suck, but sometimes, they should just drown in their own suckage without our help.

I’m afraid I don’t have magic.”
“You do, Mr. Baker. Arthur told me

Your voice is a weapon. Never forget that.”

Change often starts with the smallest of whispers. Like-minded people building it up to a roar.”

Zoe choked on a laugh. “Come on. Let’s leave the dumb adults to it. We absolutely will go inside and start dinner and not watch them through the windows.”
“Ooh,” Talia said. “I get it. Yes, let’s go watch—I mean, make dinner.”

Book Review: Asylum Madeleine Roux

Asylum (Asylum, #1)

Asylum by Madeleine Roux

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

October 26-29

Asylum is a thrilling and creepy photo-novel perfect for fans of the New York Times bestseller Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children.

For sixteen-year-old Dan Crawford, New Hampshire College Prep is more than a summer program—it’s a lifeline. An outcast at his high school, Dan is excited to finally make some friends in his last summer before college. But when he arrives at the program, Dan learns that his dorm for the summer used to be a sanatorium, more commonly known as an asylum. And not just any asylum—a last resort for the criminally insane.

As Dan and his new friends, Abby and Jordan, explore the hidden recesses of their creepy summer home, they soon discover it’s no coincidence that the three of them ended up here. Because the asylum holds the key to a terrifying past. And there are some secrets that refuse to stay buried.

Featuring found photos of unsettling history and real abandoned asylums and filled with chilling mystery and page-turning suspense, Madeleine Roux’s teen debut, Asylum, is a horror story that treads the line between genius and insanity.

Review : I really enjoyed this book it was a bit slow in the beginning but it was an enjoyable spooky book for the Halloween season. This is about Dan he’s in this college program he meets some new friends Jordan and Abby things start to be going well for Dan but they decided to search in this old basement at their program see the college use to be an old asylum . Dan starts having weird dreams and he’s been receiving weird letters and then someone was murdered and another guy was injured this old serial killer the skulpter Dan thinks its him but he’s apparently dead . Dan was looking into him and even asked this guy a Townie who did a article about the skulpter but he freaked out due to Dan name cause apparently maybe Dan’s relative was involved with the asylum and use to do experiments. It turns out Felix his roommate was the killer but this place was causing him to act crazy very weird but I’m looking forward to reading the rest of the series.

Quotes :

Fire-breathing bitch-queen

I missed you,” he said quietly, his gaze darting between her mouth and eyes. “When I was in

Wendlyn. I lied when I said I didn’t. From the moment you left, I missed you so much I went out of my

mind. I was glad for the excuse to track Lorcan here

It’s Aelin now,” she snapped as loudly as she dared. “Celaena Sardothien doesn’t exist anymore.”

What if we go on,’ he said, ‘only to more pain and despair? What if we go on, only to find a horrible friend waiting for us?’

Aelin looked northward, as if she could see all the way to Terrasen. ‘Then it is not the end.”

What are you waiting for?’ he said, the words near guttural.

‘Bastard,’ she murmured, and kissed him.

Her mouth was soft and warm, and he bit back a groan. His body went still—his entire world went still—at that whisper of a kiss, the answer to a question he’d asked for centuries. He realized he was staring only when she withdrew slightly. His fingers tightened at her waist.

‘Again,’ he breathed.

She slid out of his grip. ‘If we live through tomorrow, you’ll get the rest.’

He didn’t know whether to laugh or roar. ‘Are you trying to bribe me into surviving?’

His name was Dorian.

Dorian Havillard, and he was the Crown Prince of Adarlan.”

And at long last, Aelin Ashryver Galathynius was home

Book Review: Caraval Stephanie Garber

Caraval (Caraval #1)

Caraval by Stephanie Garber
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

September 8-27

Whatever you’ve heard about Caraval, it doesn’t compare to the reality. It’s more than just a game or a performance. It’s the closest you’ll ever find to magic in this world . . .

Scarlett has never left the tiny island where she and her beloved sister, Tella, live with their powerful, and cruel, father. Now Scarlett’s father has arranged a marriage for her, and Scarlett thinks her dreams of seeing Caraval, the far-away, once-a-year performance where the audience participates in the show, are over.

But this year, Scarlett’s long-dreamt of invitation finally arrives. With the help of a mysterious sailor, Tella whisks Scarlett away to the show. Only, as soon as they arrive, Tella is kidnapped by Caraval’s mastermind organizer, Legend. It turns out that this season’s Caraval revolves around Tella, and whoever finds her first is the winner.

Scarlett has been told that everything that happens during Caraval is only an elaborate performance. But she nevertheless becomes enmeshed in a game of love, heartbreak, and magic with the other players in the game. And whether Caraval is real or not, she must find Tella before the five nights of the game are over, a dangerous domino effect of consequences is set off, and her sister disappears forever.

Welcome, welcome to Caraval . . . beware of getting swept too far away.

Review: I loved this book it was beautiful and magical. Scarlett has been obsessed with Caraval since she was a kid and her grandmother told her stories about it . Scarlett started writing to Legend and he finally answered and gave her tickets. But she can’t go cause she supposed to marry some count her abusive father set her up with . Her sister tella is determined to go and her friend Julian helps kinda kidnap Scarlett to get her to the island . Caraval is very magical . Julian and Scarlett start working together and part of the game this year is a wish and Legend takes Tella as part of the game. We learn their grandmother was the woman Legend fell for but then married another man. We also learn about Rosa a woman who fell for Legend but after the game was over she killed herself. Julian and Scarlett get closer. Julian is definitely an interesting character I could tell he was hiding something. Dante a guy Scarlett met and who helped Scarlett somehow was working with Julian because Rosa is Julian sister. The count and her father shows up. Julian gets caught in the crossfire and the father tries to kill Julian he freaking nuts .Scarlett knocks the count out with some perfume and ties him to a bed . Scarlett finally meets Legend and he says him and Julian have been working together and the whole Rosa is sister is fake and Legend kills Julian. Scarlett finds Tella and Tella is trying to tell Scarlett it was all fake and that she isn’t in danger. Tella tells her she fell for someone but its really Legend and their father and the count shows up and Legend threatens the father and Tella kills herself. Scarlett tries to save her and Scarlett goes to see Legend who isn’t really Legend and is an actor whatttt. Scarlett talks with Julian and apparently Legend is Julian brother.
I loved this book onto the next one Tella gets a letter from Legend on their end of the deal.
Quotes:
Some would probably call him a villain. Others would say his magic makes him closer to a god.”

No one is truly honest,” Nigel answered. “Even if we don’t lie to others, we often lie to ourselves. And the word good means different things to different people.”

Whatever you’ve heard about Caraval, it doesn’t compare to the reality. It’s more than just a game or performance. It’s the closest you’ll ever find yourself magic in this world.”

She imagined loving him would feel like falling in love with darkness, frightening and consuming yet utterly beautiful when the stars came out.

He tasted like midnight and wind, and shades of rich brown and light blue. Colors that made her feel safe and guarded.”

Quotes
This had better be important.”
“Perhaps if you hadn’t been reading all night, you wouldn’t be so exhausted,” snapped the young man seated across from her.”

Sam,” she murmured into his chest.

“Hmm?”

She peeled away from him, stepping out of his arms. “If you ever tell anyone about me embracing you… I’ll gut you.

“Life isn’t easy, no matter where you are. You’ll make choices you think are right, and then suffer for them.”

I love you,” he repeated, shaking her again. “I have for years. But if I asked you to pick, you’d choose Arobynn, and I. Can’t. Take. It.”
“You’re a damned idiot,” she breathed grabbing the front of his tunic. “You’re a moron and an ass and a damned idiot.” He looked like she had hit him. But she went on, and grasped both sides of his face. “Because I’d pick you.”

Why did you do it?”
He removed her hand from his cheek to kiss the tips of her fingers. “I get scared, too,” he murmured onto her skin. “You want to hear something ridiculous? Whenever I’m scared out of my wits, I tell myself: My name is Sam Cortland … and I will not be afraid. I’ve been doing it for years.”
It was her turn to raise her brows. “And that actually works?”
He laughed onto her fingers. “Sometimes it does, sometimes it doesn’t. But it usually makes me feel better to some degree. Or it just makes me laugh at myself a bit.”

Why did you do it?”

Arobynn’s attention drifted back to the wagon, already a small dot in the rolling foothills above Rifthold. “Because I don’t like sharing my belongings.”

Quotes :

Simon , you’re blushing, observed Jace. And you’re a vampire and almost never blush, so this better be really juicy . And weird

Herondales.” Zachariah’s voice was a breath, half laughter, half pain. “I had almost forgotten. No other family does so much for love, or feels so much guilt for it. Don’t carry the weight of the world on you, Jace. It’s too heavy for even a Herondale to bear.”

WHY DOES THIS KEEP HAPPENING?” There was a sound of shattering glass, and they both sat up to see Alec glaring at them. He had dropped the empty bottle of wine he had been carrying, and there were bits of sparkly glass all over the cave floor. “WHY CAN’T YOU GO SOMEWHERE ELSE TO DO THESE HORRIBLE THINGS? MY EYES.”

“It’s a demon realm, Alec,” Isabelle said. “There’s nowhere for us to go.”

“And you said I should look after her-” Simon began, then realized that would not be a productive line of conversation, and shut up.”

Herondales.” Zachariah’s voice was a breath, half laughter, half pain. “I had almost forgotten. No other family does so much for love, or feels so much guilt for it. Don’t carry the weight of the world on you, Jace. It’s too heavy for even a Herondale to bear.”

Jem: Come in.
Jace: Where’s Brother Zachariah?
Jem: I’m right here. Jace Herondale. And once more a Herondale is the object of my deliverance. I should have anticipated.”

Okayyyyy,” Isabelle said in a low voice, “When did Brother Zachariah get hot?”

I did not make a pie,” Alec repeated, gesturing expressively with one hand, “for three reasons. One, because I do not have any pie ingredients. Two, because I don’t actually
know how to make a pie.”
He paused, clearly waiting.
Removing his sword and leaning it against the cave wall, Jace said warily, “And three?”
“Because I am not your bitch,” Alec said, clearly pleased with himself.”

Quotes

She was the heir of ash and fire, and she would bow to no one.”

And then I am going to rattle the stars.”

“Their hands clasped between them, he whispered into her ear, “I claim you, too, Aelin Galathynius.”

I claim you, Rowan Whitethorn. I don’t care what you say and how much you protest. I claim you as my friend.”

That was when they noticed that every musician on the stage was wearing mourning black. That was when they shut up. And when the conductor raised his arms, it was not a symphony that filled the cavernous space.

It was the Song of Eyllwe.

Then Song of Fenharrow. And Melisande. And Terrasen. Each nation that had people in those labour camps.

And finally, not for pomp or triumph, but to mourn what they had become, they played the Song of Adarlan.

When the final note finished, the conductor turned to the crowd, the musicians standing with him. As one, they looked to the boxes, to all those jewels bought with the blood of a continent. And without a word, without a bow or another gesture, they walked off the stage.

The next morning, by royal decree, the theatre was shut down.

No one saw those musicians or their conductor again.”

She was Aelin Ashryver Galathynius—and she would not be afraid.

Chaol kept his sword drawn. “I will not go to Anielle,” he growled. “And I will not serve you a moment longer. There is one true king in this room—there always has been. And he is not sitting on that throne.”
Dorian stiffened.
But Chaol went on. “There is a queen in the north, and she has already beaten you once. She will beat you again. And again. Because what she represents, and what your son represents, is what you fear most: hope. You cannot steal it, no matter how many you rip from their homes and enslave. And you cannot break it, no matter how many you murder.”
